My two are always crated at night also. Comes bed time and you get out of your chair they head for the basement and get in their crates. Dogs like their "dog house" and feel secure in there.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!
Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

That's the easiest way to housebreak. Just take them straight outside first thing in the morning, and they'll get the idea.

I think he was asking about training the dog to be loose in the house at night and not in a crate. In other words, not chewing on something or dumping waste baskets and all of the other things that can go on while they are sleeping.
Maybe I read it wrong, but I was just stating that I don't think they need to be loose and I don't think the dog does either so my advice is keep her crated.

Thats my exact routine also Ezzy. they just instinctively know it's time for bed. They go downstairs and outside for one last time, then back in and to their crates they go. They really have come to like their own place.ezzy333 wrote:My two are always crated at night also. Comes bed time and you get out of your chair they head for the basement and get in their crates. you all hit the nail on the head. my real question is and was what do you all do at night with your dogs. but you answered that question. so, i quess i need to work on the crate training more. she knows that is where she is to go at night for the most part, but she hesitates any other time when i say "kennel" or "kennel up". how do i get her to like her kennel more ? any other suggestions? oh, and i am looking for a great deal on a dogtra 200 or similar e collar. what are your thoughts on the Cabelas 3500?

I crated my dogs for as long as it took until I could trust them to be free in the house. My youngest dog was a little over a year before she earned that trust. I have a rescue dog that is not allowed ot be free in the house, she is about 2 yrs.
You decide when the time is right.
As for the E-collar, save your money right now there are more important things to buy than a tool that is used for more advanced training.
How did your trips down for wild birds go? I am curious!

Make her go into it, it doesn't matter if she likes it or not. It's her way of testing you. She'll try you on other issues if you let her win this on.she knows that is where she is to go at night for the most part, but she hesitates any other time when i say "kennel" or "kennel up". how do i get her to like her kennel more ? any other suggestions?
