Check cord recommendations?
Check cord recommendations?
Greetings.
I've used check cords on my dogs for years, but only recently heard of folks preferring 'stiff' ones to help avoid tangles and offer a more immediate response with the dog. Mine are regular, multipurpose ropes. Any recommendation for a stiffer style, I the 20-30' range? I've shopped lots of sites, but they're description leaves me wondering about this detail. Thanks.

Lion Country Supply Tangle Proof Check Cord. Order # CC1. Nothing better.
Re: Check cord recommendations?
I haven't been able to find good check cord material for years. maybe I just don't have enough dried mud in this one yet. I like 7/16th tight woven nylon with a solid core.
I pity the man that has never been loved by a dog!

Thanks, vman. I'll check out that cord, seems to be what I was looking for.

I use a mendota from sportsmans warehouse. Also a busted bright orange 1/4 air hose from home depot as a backup. Couple of zip ties then wrapped with electrical tape to geate a loop for the closed end of the snap. It hardly ever tangles or snags. Total Cost 1.19

Check cord recommendations?
If you know anyone that works with a rescue crew or tree service. check with them. They replace their climbing ropes when worn an make excellent tangle free check chords.

Those look like nice cords but, I don't like the snap put on like that. I use a bowline knot to tie on my snaps. I use the whoa post for whoa training and then I use that knot under the chin if the dog moves. Very effective. Need a knot there to do that.gundogguy wrote:I have used this product for some 25 yrsdakotagun wrote:Greetings.

When teaching manors on game, we prefer a max. of 12 foot. We use a rope style and one made from used compressor hose. The one that is pictured (12 foot compressor hose), does not tangle, easy on your hands and is a mild shock absorber.

Once you've had permatack, you'll never go back! I love the stuff Mary puts out there for checkcords and dog/horse stuff too. www.permatack.com. Mine don't tangle, don't get soaked or mud caked and they're easy on the hands. I've been using them for the past 14 years - love their stuff. She makes custom orders too - anything you can dream up, she can make.

Gibbons and a few of us over here started using the air hose a few years ago. I Iike it except it is hard to wrap up and store.gotpointers wrote:I use a mendota from sportsmans warehouse.
