I am trying to get my new pointer to lie in her dog bed. She does not want to. Any suggestions on how to get her to do so.

wes,

If you keep the dog in the crate at night throw the bed in it for a few days to a week so that the dog will have it's sent all over it. Then when the dog's not looking put a few treat in the bed make it a game and soon the dog will explore the bed all the time for treats and will eventually start to lie on it. Hope this helps!

That worked for me....I did not realize i did it at the time but i guess i did. The bed started out in the crate, then it was moved to the back patio, and he lays on it all the time.

The other day I washed the patio down and I put the bed on top of the patio table so it did not get wet, and I forgot and left it up there. I looked out the window later that day and saw Rowdy put his front paws on top of the table and grab the bed with his mouth to pull it to the ground. Once it got to the ground he layed down and took a nap.

i am the same as gr_elliott. had the bed in the crate not intending to train to the bed, but when i took the crate away and left the bed, she goes to the bed just like it was still in the crate.

I have 2 dog beds in the office and at times have 3 GSP's trying to fit on one or the other. I agree about the crate deal but I also have a daughter that used to steal the dog's bed to watch TV in the middle of the Den. Dog's learned real quick to hit the bed before the Kiddo could steal it from them!

Gr, you are lucky that your dog took it off the table, mine would have probably gotten on the table and napped there.
