How old should a dog be before an e-collar is used?

Depends on the dog but at least 6 months.

Get the pup lots of exposure to birds first. Work on the checkcord, then the whoa post before moving to the e- collar!

Dogs are very receptive to association. If you put the collar on the young dog every time you turn him loose in the field, he will soon come to associate the collar with something very enjoyable and possitive. He will get to the point of becoming very excited at just the sight of the collar. This is what I like to see before he ever feels any stimulation from the collar.

I do agree with thunderhead. Just leave the transmitter at home for extra protection. And don't even turn the collar on.

I bought a Beagle pup about 5 months ago and now she is ready to start gun training. I am going to get a correction collar I just don't know which one to get. So many choices and varieties I don't know which one would be durable and not break with her going through brush.

The ones that I have picked out so far are these:

I know she will be in some heavy brush and also very hilly terrain so I figured I better get one with a long range.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks for any help with my first post.
