Locator collar

Post by ccavacini » Wed Dec 07, 2005 5:35 am

I've got a Sport Dog 1200 e collar...happy with it...but sometimes in thick cover, I lose my dog or she's out chasing moonbeams...don't want continuous beeping and trying not to spend money on a whole new system

Here's what I'm looking for....Something I can attach to her collar (next to the receiver) that would emit a noise when I hit a button so I know where she is.

There's especially a problem when the snow clogs up her bell...

I've looked but I think I'm out of luck.

Anyone know of a device like this?

I did some research a while back but my memory isn't very good. I know it exists but will have to look again to see aho makes it. Sportdog had talked about doing a remote beeper stand alone but not sure it is out yet. I don't run e-collars but would love a beeper with remote if I didn't have to buy the shock part too to have it. Someone even makes one that beeps on your end instead of the dogs when they go on point for really spooky birds so what you want does exist.

I just ordered a new Dotra 2000 TB collar.. It has the feature your are talking about. I hate a beeper while hunting but sometimes do loose a dog for a while and need to find what direction it went.

What I have isn't made any longer but what I use is the Innotech CS-1600 remote and the track n train colars.

This give me tone control from the remote, IE I can set the locator to "Point Only" "Grouse(5 second delay beep)" or "Normal(10 second delay beep). I can set any of this remotely on the fly from the remote. I can also do a locate tone or turn the whole thing off from the remote. This is real nice in heavy cover in silent mode I can single tone to locate the dog and this seems to spook the birds alot less.

You may look at Innotech's site, I am not sure if the new CS-16000 remote with track n train coalr will do this.

Regards,

Rob

OK, the beeper hater's collar is made by Lovetts and runs $240 to have the notice of point on you instead of the dog though I think the dog starts beeping after some delay. Lovetts has an add on plain beeper that can be had for $76 but no remote activation on that.

DT systems has a beeper with remote activation for $150 that does what I wanted most for still less than the $300 usual for a ecollar with beeper.

Innotek has a trainer with three tones for $150 and an ecollar and beeper for $200. Not sure the range on hearing the tones on the lessor as it seems more for the dog as a warning/command than as a locator. I hear varying opinions about thier dependability but liked the sound of one I heard last month that was obtained from LCS with free shipping and think it was the od version of the now $200 model had for $150 according to the owner.

I have a Petsafe/Sportdog beeper that has run on the original battery for three seasons now and got it for a song ($29) when Cabelas was switching from Petsafe to Sportdog Divisions. Wish it had remote activate like the DT but haven'y ponied up for the extra perk yet.

Good luck!

I just bought a couple of Sport dog Beepers that work wonders. Have not had a problem with them yet and bunches of hours of use. 69 bucks each
