Training day In Utah

Post by crittercontrol » Fri Nov 25, 2005 3:48 pm

Had an awesome training episode today! A couple guys from the forum and me decided it was high time the dogs got out and did a little touch-up work.

We even had some fine folks from out of town for an audience. I was nice to have multiple people and dogs working nearby....hopefully this will get them a little accustomed to trial life, etc.

Image
Gur wanted to retrieve, but she had some competition!

Each and every dog did just fantastic. Gur and Cooper were generally steady to point while the other two youngsters needed a little re-enforcement (although I think they would have held, check collar or not.) Cooper and Cowboy have some darn fine style, and Sydney hits those points like a brick wall. Gur, being the hippy that she is, just lolly-gags along, then just stops in whatever pose she was in while she was hunting...

Image
Sydney on point...one "bleep" fine looking dog.

We also worked on honoring/backing and had some fine work by the dogs.

Image
Cooper found this bird, and held until we got there with the other dogs, who honored.

Image
Cowboy hits those points like you wouldn't believe, "bleep" flashy too...

Image
And finally this fine triple honor. Cooper pointed the bird, Gur ran in and stopped, and then so did Sydney. Think we missed the bird though....

Nice to be able to have some control of the situation, be able to know where the birds are, and be out with some fine folks all at the same time.

NASTRA trial here we come!

Always,

CJ

Great pictures.

I had a lot of fun. It was good to get the dogs out in a controlled environment. It had been a while. The weather was good.

Thanks for the invite.

Cowboy still likes to creep in on those birds. Dangit. He is a great bird finder, he retrieves to hand, I just gotta get him to quit creeping.

My favorite part of the day wasn't very nice, but it was funny. Gur went out on a retrieve and picked up a bird. I figured it was safe, so I release Cowboy. He ran out full speed and crashed into Gur's side. It made her drop the bird and picked it up and brought it to me. That is my fault, I get my dogs playing fetch with a training dummy in the back yard, they get pretty competetive on who can get there first to pick up the dummy.

Ya Get us a heads up and I will give it a try. Cash is getting BIG and I think this spring he will be ready for breaking. Sorry I missed the NASTRA trial I would have loved to watch Ger and Cowboy run. This working weekends is killing me.

You need to update me on some pictures too! I like to see the pup in action!
Ran Momma at the NSTRA trial this weekend. She did well enough I will feed her another week or two! Dad took a 3rd but the handler missed a bird or it would have been first! AHHHHHHH! I had the sun or dirt in my eye or something like that!
