Got out with some new friends

Post by birdhunter2424 » Mon Mar 02, 2009 1:50 pm

I got out with some new friends yesterday. What an awesome day of training. 70 and sunny and the birds worked well. The dogs did a great job. Thanks Dusty, Jim and Megan for a great day of training. It was my pups second time on birds, and of course the prettiest point she had all day I didn't get a pic of. Here is a few I did get.

If it's a pointing lab why do you have to hold it back?

Just kidding. Nice pics! Sure wish our ground wasn't covered with snow.

That was the first time seing a pointing lab work, that dog was great. After planting birds it took jake about 15 seconds to be on the first bird.

Our weather has been crazy here in Colorado. I had to water the lawn today we have had so little precip. Hopefully it doesn't hurt the birds for this upcoming season.

I just drove out to Greeley & Brighton & back to Duluth over this past Thurs. - Sat. to get my GSP inseminated. The area sure looked dry & I heard lots of complaints about the lack of snow/moisture. At least there was plenty of snow in the mountains. In Minnesota we've had lots of snow and cold this winter. We're worried about how well the pheasants may have been able to survive the tough winter in N.D. If we have ice storms in late winter and/or wet nesting conditions hunter success will be substantially reduced this fall. Iowa was hit hard with flooding last year. Looks like we'll have to head to SD. , NE. or MT for birds this fall.

Nice to see that some folks can get out and do some bird work this time of year!

Ted,

I sent you a pm with a long explanation of why I bred to a non-trialed Rusty grandson with lots of titled & HoF dogs on both the top and bottom sides.

Matt it was a fun day and thanks for taking pictures. I always get so caught up on what I am going to work on and different scenarios during training to take pictures.

It has been really dry out here. Its crazy to think that 2 years ago the snow was knee to waist deep and wicked cold. Hopefully we will get some moisture soon!
