Another Day of Training

Post by grant » Mon Sep 12, 2005 6:25 pm

Its starting to cool down in the am and pm. I've been working Kage on about 3 birds, and then letting Bell make her round on the flushed birds. Lindsay's been kind enough to snap some pics...

Good lookin dogs Grant! I don't know how old your dogs are, nor how long you've been training them, but it looks like your doing something right!

Bell's about two and Kage is about one. I did a good job with Bell, and no so good with Kage. He was doing well until I tried to steady him up. Then I had him blinking birds. Brenda had him for two weeks to help get him back on track. She had him on by the first week. Now, I'm becoming a "better" trainer, cause I'm learning to train without an ecollar =) I think we're on the right track. He's a great kid, and while the training process is fun, I can't wait to see him when he's had a few seasons in him.

We get a kick out of Bell. She’s a small rocket. When you line her up she just starts shaking and shivering. When you hit that whistle, she’s gone! Anyway, I love my bunch. Can you say I’ve got a good case of Kennel View?

Oh, she's got a stuffed GSP dressed like a "clown". She beats it everynight. Just getting ready to go out west I guess.... =)

Grant, I know what you mean about "not so good." Justus was a machine until we went to FF and now he's blinking birds too. Working to get him back now. Hopefully it won't take long but he's a pretty soft dog and takes some different training techniques than some of the harder-headed gsps we run with.

I know what you’re saying. Bell wants to please real bad, but you could hit her in the head with a brick and she's not discouraged. Kage has lots of drive and lots of style and a SUPER nose, but is very sensitive to correction. For him, praise is a miracle worker.

That blinking stuff stinks! I caught it quick, so I knew we'd get him back on track. Its just the thought that I made him do it that stinks...
