Bouncy Ball

Post by grant » Sat Aug 27, 2005 8:42 am

I'm out to MTN bike with Bell. Having a GSP in the house w/out exercise is insane! Imagine shooting a bouncy ball out of a sling shot in your livingroom. Paint it Liver with some ticking and you've got Bell w/out out exercise. I LOVE that energy she has....

Its that energy that’ll leave all the Wires, Vs, and EP’s in the dust this year!!!!! (oh, setters and britts to) All y’all westies better not come over to eastie this year! You might just get your feelings hurt! HA!!!!

Enjoy your Saturday!

Talk to ye’ later.

!!!

You don't think V's have that kind of energy?!?

Justus is bouncing off the walls, running up and down the stairs, slingshotting himself off the couch, etc.

If we go run his legs off he'll come inside, get a drink, lay on the linoleum in the kitchen and get cooled off. 20 minutes later he's back at it. :D

I do find my Vizsla puppy takes breaks and actually falls asleep now and then. I don't recall my Weimaraner ever laying down for her entire first year.

I never owned a GSP, but I do believe Weimaraners have more energy then Vizsla's. Then again that just may be the difference between the two I own and not have anything to do with the breed.

I've been considering getting Cassi involved with Agility to get some of that energy out. The waiting lists here are really long no matter what club you ask, agility appears to be 4 to 6 months out to get into a class.

Well Tak, out here on the Northen prarie, unless your dogs are used to backing from a quarter mile away.<vbg> But theres enough ground out here they might accidentally stumble into a bird.<elg>
Id best be careful, my mouth might be writing checks my dogs cant cash.SDGORD

I think agility is great for dogs and owners. They truely seem to love the high energy of it. It came along about the time I was getting out of competition obedience and started field work, but I have alot of friends that do it.

Now personally I have been avoiding obedience. But, I think agility would be fun.

I may be totally off base here, but I have avoided obedience for two main reasons:
  • First, I want my dog to range more when I hunt. I am afraid too much heal work will make them want to stay closer and not range.
Second, I've watched plenty of obedience sessions and not one of those dogs looks like they are having any fun. I don't know what it is but I see a lot of sad eyes and tucked tails in all the obedience sessions I have witnessed. I am sure that differs from place to place.
However, agility looks like a lot of fun for the dogs and if they are quick and agile and need to get that energy out .... it just seems like the right fit for me and my dogs.

Have you thought about flyball? I don't know much about it personally, but it always sounded cool whenever I heard anyone talk about it.

No I haven't, but I have now
Actually, I have seen the ball dispensor before in an agility class. I didn't know another sport was involved.

What is Flyball? (click here) I googled for it. It is governed by NAFA (North America Flyball Association)

You saying you need a short tailed dog to come up and give them dogs some backing training!
