brushing GSP
thanks, wasn`t sure to do it or not, what type of brush to use?
My experience is that the bath looses the coat - so that the next 2-3 days you will experience shedding, ie brushing will be needed not just the day of the bath.
For removing loose coat you may want to consider a pumice stone (sold as a grill brick at most hardware stores!) or a stripping 'knife', ie magnet stripper, or a 'sheddin' blade' - available at most petstores.

Sometimes she wished she were sleeping with the right man instead of with her dog, but she never felt she was sleeping with the wrong dog.

A rubber curry comb works pretty well. I have also used a rubber bathing mitt.gspgunner wrote:thanks, wasn`t sure to do it or not, what type of brush to use?

I use one of those red rubber block type brushes. I believe it's called a Miracle Brush. It says it is for a cat but works really well on my GSP's. I usually brush them down real good the day after the bath.

One of the best deshedding tools I've seen is the "Furminator"
You can see it in action on their website: http://www.furminator.com/testbed/indexnew.html

Zoom Groom is the only thing I use on dogs with GSP type coats(and on my GSPS!) at my grooming shop now for about the past 7 years, work awesome, much better than the rubber mitts - threw them all out!!
Furminator works OK for "thicker" coated GSPS(but mostly just the neck area tends to be a little thicker), but the Zoom Groom works better. The Furminator is awesome on labs, Goldens & that type of coats though, much better than the Zoom Groom.

Whiting Shampoos
There are several excellent whiting shampoos on the market. When I was grooming my own dogs I used Double K's Groomers Edge formulas of shampoos. Here is their whiting shampoo that really works well.

Any whitening Shampoo will do. Most Farm stores will carry them for horses and all will work pretty much equally well. We use White-N-Brite Horse shampoo when we're showing our dogs.

The 2 best products I have found are Bio-groom whitening shampoo, for particularly stubborn staining, White Lightning works great.mountaindogs wrote:Ah, a groomer! That would be someone who knows!
What do you use to get yellow out of white coats?
I like the Bio-groom for an all round shampoo, priced good, hypo-allergenic, cleans well, nice scent w/o being perfumey. Pet Edge carries it.

Thanks. I think the white lightning is the shampoo that some had recomended years ago, but I didn't write it down at the time.
I once went to a show and there were 4 brittanys in the ring. One was outstandingly whiter and made the other 3 look cream colored. Very interesting to see.
The other great benefit to the zoom groom is that it's easy to wash the fur out. I used to use horse curry brushes or the rubber shampoo brush and the fur would not wash out. I would always be picking fur out of the brush.
