How long to rest an injured dog???

I have a

4 y/o English Pointer who got caught in some barbed wire earlier this week. It took 8 stitches to close the wound to his left shoulder area. He doesn't seem to even notice that he is injured but I don't want to get him out to soon and risk ripping the stitches open. I know the general rule for humans is two weeks until the stitches can come out but I have never had a dog get hurt this bad and need input from others who have been through this before. Let me know what you think about how long to wait to take him out again. Thanks.

I had that trip to the vet this year too, and I waited until 10 days, in the past I have had to wait 14 days .
