Best on-line source for buying vaccines

Post by Crl » Thu Feb 08, 2007 9:31 pm

I am looking for a new supplier of dog vaccines. I have been ordering from Revival but their price keeps going up. Anyone have any other good on-line sources.

Thanks
Crl

I've used Dressler's Dog Supply and had great service!

I have used Jeffers for a very long time. Prices are good and customer service is great.

I agree, Jeffers does have really good customer service, and the prices are resonable.

I buy there locally but they have a catalog/website that is great too. I agree that the cost of everything just keeps going up.

I would like to use Jeffers but they won't ship vaccines to MN. They are the only company that won't.

Crl, isn't there something with you guys needing to have a prescription in order to get syringes or something...even for the dogs? I have no problem taking the dogs in for check-ups but the cost of a vaccination in the vet's office versus doing it yourself is staggering. It didn't seem like much when we had one dog, but when you enlarge the family it really makes a dent!

The only restriction that I am aware of is that we can't get rabies shots to our dogs without a vet doing it. I order vaccines and syringes from revival, and fosters and smith. heck my vet even gives me syringes if I ask. He told me there is no restrictions on vaccines only rabies shots. I have tried to talk to a supervisor at Jeffers but they don't make the rules.

Talk to your vet about giving your own shots. My vet will sell me the vaccines pre-dosed in syringes for just a little more than the mail order catalogs. Saves me about $7.50 a shot.

What is the shelf life of those vaccines if kept refrigerated? could you buy a few years worth of doses?

The reason I ask is I checked into the online vet supply houses, and while the vaccines themselves are cheap, they get ya for the shipping. Seems they are specially packed in coolers or such with next day shipping charges. Doesn't seem then like much of a savings from going to the vet, unless you have multiple dogs?

Chaingang, I don't know the self life but if you only have one or two dogs it's not worth it. I only buy vac's when I've had a litter of pups. Otherwise I go to the vet.

bh99 -- Nice training with you the other day --

I posted a new thread talking about exactly that -- When is it ecconomical to self vaccinate dogs. Seems like with pups, it is a no brainer. But for a guy with 1 to 3 dogs, it may be just as cheap going to the vet. Please respond on the new thread -- vaccines - Vet vs. DIY
