my advice would be to have her spayed or at least vet checked and probably ultrasound. it is not unusual for older dogs to have false pregnancies and have milk. The timing seems a little early.
You should certainly get her to a vet. Could be a lot of things and most are bad........Cj

Lots of people let "nature take its course". Sometimes that is a problem and sometimes it isn't. It's a crap shoot without a vet on line ; I was in that financial boat once too. I assume this was an accidental breeding?

is there anything else I can do to improve her chances of being okay? is there a particular diet or exercise I could do to help her?

I guess I don't understand exactly what you think might be the problem.

No offense meant, but if you can't afford to get your dog to the vet now, how are you going to afford raising a litter of puppies?
Not to mention, all sorts of things can wrong when she whelps, if in fact she is pregnant.

Maybe you vet friend can suggest some options, like a low cost spay-neuter clinic or some such? Or maybe a local shelter knows of something like that?

I'm sorry you're in such a pickle, best of luck finding some kind of help, and of everything going ok for your girl.

my friend had a dog that was a great hunter but they had to put her down because the people before them had bread her to young and something happend to her bone structure that made her unable to walk or run very well and she was in constant pain, and I am not interested in that happening to my puppy

Well, that does change things a bit.
Did you see a tie or any breeding. I think there are way to abort a litter. I
don't know what the health issuesare with that.It seems early for her to have milk. That would be more likely a sign of a false pregnancy.
If you think any thing at all of your dog , you need to get her to a vet. Natures course is not always the best course. I suppose a 15 month old bitch can deliver a litter, but I am glad it is not mine........Cj

Everything I have read discourages aborting. Plenty of 15 month old dogs have litters. It is not ideal. Like others I think it is a false pregnancy as milk is awful early.

I really doubt that the young pregnancy had anything to do with the fact the dog had painful joint problems - sounds more like a case of dysplasia which is genetic.

Although it is generally recommended to have a dog at least 2 years of age before breeding, there are a good number of dogs bred at a year and a half without any real issues.
