2 weeks ago we were hunting for 2 days pretty hard. Missy started to limp a little after the hunt but she was running right through cactus. Last weekend we ran in a regional championship. See( Brags) it was brutal. At half way through the final round she started to limp a little but I didn't stop her. Monday her and I couldn't hardly move. Last 3 days I have seen no limp. this afternoon the started to limp again. Starting to think it is joint pain. What pain reliever can I use? PS She runs free on 2 acres all day if she wants to.

Rimadyl for the dog Tanquerey for me. Hope she is back to her old self soon. You too.

My dog uses rheumacyl. Vet would know the best choice of drugs for certain kinds of pain.

Sure she didn’t get s piece of cactus thorn under her skin and it is moving around? That happened to my dog a year or so back.

Exactly! Except the second ingredient is dependent on season.

I would try soaking those pads in a warm epsom salt bath. I had a embedded cactus spine that was causing some issues. I soaked the pads twice a day for a few days, a lot more than one came out.

I suspect you mean rimadlyl (generic is carprofen), a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. However, it is my understanding that only a licensed vet can prescribe which is probably a good idea. There are certified rehabilitation vets that have a better understanding of precisely why a dog would be limping. While we are all inclined to visit our own general practice vets, that may not be the best choice. I saw a certified rehabilitation vet when my dog had to undergo a TPLO and there is a big difference between a specialist and a general practitioner.

Of course, if you think it might be cactus under the skin, that's a different story.

If it continues best visit a vet. That is how Lymes Disease starts.
All of these, especially Rimadyll treat the symptoms not the cause. It works good to make a dog think there is nothing wrong......Cj

Is there a way you could improve her conditioning program? IME drastically upping exercise occasionally like that leads to the Weekend Warrior pain and stiffness, but keeping dogs in shape for whatever particular activity you participate in helps a lot.
Can you road her, run her off a quad or golf cart several times a week? I know you mentioned she has a couple of acres to run on every day, but maybe she isn't running around full tilt as much as you think she is. I have a similar set yp, and after the first zoom around our place, the dogs slow way down and/or find a spot to chill if left to their own devices.

Otherwise, ask your vet about NSAIDS for dogs. There are several to choose from and you can find the one that works best. Sometimes all you need is a dose or two to get the dog over the hump.

Gave her 2 baby aspirins, 12 hrs apart. By the 15th she was back on her old stride. We went quail hunting and she covered 19 miles at 10 mph. This morning she is back to her old self. I'm going to stop letting her jump off the tailgate also. I have a truck loading dock on the property where she hunts mice and jumps up and down off the dock (36") all the time, but I am not going to add to it if I can. Thanks for the input.

She may be getting a little arthritis. If memory serves me right she has been around awhile.......Cj
