Skin Hole?

Post by reba » Fri Nov 13, 2020 12:36 pm

I just noticed a "V" shape hole/tear close to the front arm pit of my 12 month old GSP.

I not seem does not seem to bother her and she is keeping clean.

My location right now is remote with high winds and snow. In good conditions it is almost a 2 hour drive to a vet and it is Friday after 12 noon.

Most likely Monday before I reach civilization.

FIRST AID recommendations?

Thank you.

crazy glue and nu-skin. A few staples if you have them. Good hunting.

Just a little panic attack. I am certain she will be ok. Maybe find some super glue.

Sounds like you are in the Owens Valley or NV. Always carry staples and glue in cattle country.

Just let it heal, may take longer but since it’s not huge or bleeding leave it be. Unless she won’t stop licking it, if so put a cone on her.

The "V" flap of skin is about thumb size.

Will have it repair Monday in Winnemucca.

I have a choice of a couple of Vets.

Any suggestions?

If not I will use a place called Desert Trails Vet.

Thanks

No suggestion on the vet. But I think it’s been too long to repair. They may trim the flap off and let it heal. Or they may trim all the edges and stitch. But like I said for the size I’d just let it heal even if I trimmed the flap. Good luck with what ever you do.

Ok now the rest of the story.

Got home and took Gypsy to my regular Vet.

She, the vet, said no stiches required.

One Vet in Fernley, NV wanted $850 to stich Gypsy up plus the emergency fee!!!

Yikes!

All is well.

Next stop quail down in AZ.

Thanks!

Get a stapler and antibiotics from amazon and learn how to use it. Under $20.00

Gave the picked through first aid kit a once over after reading your post and couldn’t find the stapler, Amazon dropped one and a few other odds and ends at the house today. Thanks for the reminder.
