worming meds

Post by jonmac » Mon Jun 30, 2014 7:12 am

Hi everyone,

What do you use and when do you worm your dogs?

I have give this a lot of thought and I really just don't know. I have always been under the notion of ounce every month, but what if they don't need it that often? does it hurt them?

Do I need to take him to the Vet and get him checked before I worm him?

Sorry for the silly questions but I would like to know.

Jon

I use ivermec once a month. 1/10 of a cc per ten pounds of dog for adult dogs. For puppies 3 months and older I use panicure once a month for the first year.
I have a puppy wormer that I administer at 2 weeks, 4 weeks, six weeks & 8 weeks. Strongid-Pyrantel Pamoate.

I do this because I have 7-10 working adult dogs and always have several puppies around the kennel. If I only had 1 or two dogs I would put them on heart guard administered once a month.

I've never used anything regularly and only once had the vet find a need for anything. I have their feces checked by the vet once a year .( 3 dogs, not a kennel full)

edit : definitely use heartworm meds for 6 months a year up here

Belly worms, also if a dog has belly worms how will he act?

he seems to have plenty of energy and life but I have noticed that since the weather has turned hot he is not eating as much, is this normal?

thanks for any and all replies.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

About every 6 months or so we use Triple Wormer by Durvet. It covers tapeworms, roundworms & hookworms.

They also get Tri-Heart (generic version of Heartguard) monthly because this is FL.

Are you referring to Ivomec? That is 1% ivermectin which .01 gm/ml or 10 mg /ml Why would you be giving your dogs so much of this? A 50-100 lb. dog only needs 272 mcg a month for heartworm prevention. Why are you giving your dogs such an unusually high dose?
