First Aid Kit?

Post by Nutmeg247 » Fri Apr 04, 2014 8:50 am

Hi,

Apologies if this has been covered -- I searched the topic but feel I've likely missed something.

In terms of dealing with dog medical issues in the field, I normally carry triple antibiotic ointment, duct tape, athletic tape, spare inner tube which normally would be for booties but could have first aid application, tweezers, a couple gauze pads, and sun tan lotion (yes, the lotion sounds weird, but if we're in the open my pup's nose burns out here otherwise). I just have a normal "human"-oriented first aid kit back in the truck.

Any recommended changes or additions? Thanks!

I also have 2 rolls of different widths of vet wrap(tractor supply store). EMT Gel is also in kit. I also carry pliars, side cutters, and needle nose in the kit.

I also carry benadryl tabs- a wire cutter for snares and a small bottle of corn syrup.

When a dog is hunting hard Hypoglycemia can set in- saw in once- a little corn syrup can raise that blood sugar level. I just carry a pill bottle full- not much but enough . Fits right in a side pocket

I had that happen with one of my sleddogs once. A little honey on the tongue and she bounced back like nothing had happened. I just carried honey packets with me after that.
