Cut toenail and hit quick

Hey guys, I was in too big of a hurry when cutting the nails on my male lab today. I hit the quick on one of his nails. Anything I need to do for that? I put flour on it and it looked like the bleeding stopped, then I waited a few mores minutes and put his paw in warm soapy water for about a minute or two. Then dried it up and put a wrap around it. Do I need to worry about infection? Is the wrap even needed? Anything else I should know or be prepared for?

He already ripped the wrap off. He has never liked them on, whether its on a big cut from barbed wire or covering his foot. Thanks, I didn't think it was much to worry about but just making sure.

Wraps are pretty much a waste of time unless you put on the LAMP SHADE.

Meanwhile, we dremmel the dogs' nails. Takes the potential for a bloody mistakes out of the equation.

Try cutting a Jack Russell puppy's toenails

This is one of the reasons I grind with a Dremel. The other being a nail that is taken back short and flat (perpendicular to the floor) is less likely to get torn.

Corn starch works great on bleeding toenails.

and remember, ALL bleeding stops eventually!

I use a sanding drum on a dremel tool to do nails too, if long I do them in two sittings. Not sure but I think the heat from the sanding helps to shrink the quick and or cauterize any possible bleeding.

Just as long as you don't hold that sanding drum on on the nail too long. It builds up heat quickly.

FWIW,

I changed to the Dremmel tool about 5 years ago because it's IMPOSSIBLE for me to never cut a nail too short with clippers. With the Dremmel, I can always tell when I'm getting close to the quick before I get a "bleeder."
