Cantalope?
My Lab has raided the kitchen counter several times over the years when we've left her unattended in the house (home alone). Both our dogs have access to two rooms and the yard thru a dog door when we go to work. One room is the kitchen. She's gotten a few cantalope off the counter over the years. She seems to have about a half cantalope appetite. So, when I eat cantalope, I will sometimes give her some small amount. The pointer will eat it as well.
Re: Cantalope?
When we aren't feeding cantaloupe and watermelon rinds to the do quail and hogs we usually send them out to the dogs. Doesn't hurt them a bit, they love them, and keeps them from rotting in the trash cans.

I hadn't thought about giving the rinds. I started giving them the rinds yesterday. They love em.

Funny, my dogs are carrot fans. They will pull them out and eat them in the garden. Or blueberries , the bottom three feet of our bushes are completely picked clean.

Cantalope rinds have some very nasty chemicals on them to prevent mold.roaniecowpony wrote:I hadn't thought about giving the rinds. I started giving them the rinds yesterday. They love em.
If you can get certified organic cantalope, fine -- if they are the regular grocery store variety, I'd sure stear clear of them.

I was giving carrots as treats as well as blueberries. I over did it with the carrots for a bit. Things got very orange.deke wrote:Funny, my dogs are carrot fans. They will pull them out and eat them in the garden. Or blueberries , the bottom three feet of our bushes are completely picked clean.

Seriously? A dogs digestive system is much more capable of handling much more than our systems. Organic shamic!

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!
Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

I had a Chessie that would eat tomatoes off the vine, green ones and all. Never bothered her iron stomach once. Some dogs can and will eat just about anything from the garden. Then there's my Springer. He seems to get the runs from eating anything other than his regular ration of PPP.
