Black Gold

Post by lking » Wed Oct 04, 2006 11:29 am

I'm in the process of switching dog food and I have a black gold dealer very close to home. I'm thinking about making the switch. I'd be happy to hear any pros and cons to your experiences with this food. I'll probably go with the red bag 30-20 or with the sig series 31-21.

You will find that some people like it, some dislike it, afew love it, and a few hate it just like every other dog food on the market.

From what I have heard it is a good food as most are and if your dog likes it and is healthy, the feed is readily available, and you can afford it, it is a good food.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

I've been using Black Gold black bag exclusively for the last two years and I have no complaints on it. I was feeding Diamond before this and I found when I switched at first the dogs ate more, then I found I cleaned the pens less and when I did it wasn't a bunch of small soft/runny clumps it was harder/firmer turds and less of them, in a few weeks time the dogs coat looked darker, shinier and there physique looked healthier. The black bag is 26/18 and when hunting season comes around my dogs run everyday for most of the day (I work evening hours and I'm able to hunt everyday) and I have never seen a lack of energy from them. Like I said I use to feed them Diamond, even Purina before that but Black Gold is the best I've used.

The distributor I get my pallets of feed from has the Ultimate Performance feed (31/21) as well but from talking to him he says he doesn't use it because he doesn't run his dog's enough to work that much energy out of them, he said he had his dogs (hounds for coon hunting) on it but they were getting bulky from not running excess energy off.

While on the subject of feed does running a higher protein and fat mix like that have any longer term effects on a dog that runs alot as mine do? Next question, if I was going to try out a few bas of this should I do it now before I go to Kansas in a month or just stick with what they've been on? I hate switching feed almost as much as I hate waking up after 7 am, I know it can be stressful for the dog and I hate to stress them before a 13 hour drive stresses them enough.

So true!!!

My dog looked kinda ratty on it but have seen others that look superb. Find a resonable priced food your dog does well on and go with it.

I made the switch from Diamond to Black Gold as well and like it. To me the bags seem to smell fresher when I open them. Maybe it's just me. My dogs have smaller firmer stools than when they were on Diamond. But like everyone else says find what your dog likes and looks good on. I currently feed my lab the lamb & rice green bag, and feed my gsp the sig series blue chicken & rice love them both.

Whenever I get a pallet load of feed it is no more than a week out of the factory. So far the oldest stuff I have seen was 5 days.
Whenever I tell the distributor I get it from that I'm in need he calls me when a truck comes in and I go up the next day or day after.

update

Post by lking » Wed Oct 25, 2006 12:27 pm

Thought I'd give a little update. Fed 40 pounds of the super (red) and dogs did pretty well. 2 of the 3 did great and 1 took a little longer to adjust. I still was not perfectly satisfied with the ingredients so I picked up 80 pounds of the Ultimate Sig Series. I really am happy with this feed so far and after almost 40 pounds the dogs are looking good and doing well.

I also switched from Diamond to Black Gold about 3 months ago now.

Like Birdhunter1said, I feed less and clean up even less than that.

I like the way the feed looks and smeels and my dogs never missed a beat.

I have a Lab in the 75lb range and he gets 3 1/2 cups and actually gained alittle weight.

I am feeding it to grown labs, a coming 1 year Britt, 2 7 month Boykins and a 10 week Britt pup and they are all shiney and healthy as a fellow could want

I have to pass this along.

http://www.bynaturepetfoods.com/

They have and organic line, and a regular line(Bright Life).

Its a great food. I just sort of stumbled on to it when I mentioned my food crisis to a friend. Its 2 of the 4 people that made Natura(Innova) But they inhanced it and I personally met the lady that helped design it. The active is 28/18 and it has worked well for my dog. Good price to.

Great food.

Black gold would be next on my list. Just to far away for me to get.

I got it for 25, Thats the dealer price on 1 bag. Im not sure I think it gets down pretty dirt cheap if you order it by the pallet. I'll ask her and let ya know.

But innova was 35 for less and worse food, IMO

I always buy the Black Gold black bag and I think the pallet I got the other day had gone up $0.50/bag to abotu $14-15 bucks a bag (wholesale), the 26/18 blend.

prices

Post by lking » Sun Oct 29, 2006 7:58 am

Up here in WI the black bag is about 18 bucks, the red is about 20, and the signature series that I am feeding runs about 25 bucks per bag with tax included. As long as supply remains intact for me, I see myself feeding the sig series for a long time!

I have been feeding Black Gold for about 9 months. Previously fed Diamond for years. I have been feeding the 26/18 Performance Blend (Black Bag) to my three adult Llewellin Setters and they are doing a lot better on this food than they did on the green bag Diamond. I have three Llewellin Setter pups that are 14 months old that were started on Eukanuba puppy and I have switched them over to the Black Gold Signature Series Ulitmate Performance 31/21. The coats on these pups are absolutely fantastic and their energy level is very high. I highly recommend the Black Gold Signature Series Ulitmate Performance 31/21.

Hey 56, Been feeding the green Diamond myself for many years to my Llewellin and Shepherd. They do great. Black Gold sounds good but don't have any near distributors. What do you pay for 50lbs? What part of Ky are you in?

I am located in Somerset, KY. This is in the south central part of the state. I buy from a distributor and have been paying $20.00 for a 40# bag of the Black Gold Signature Series Ulitmate Performance 31/21 and $14.75 for a 50# bag of the Performance Blend (Black Bag) 26/18.

Feeding Black Gold 23/16 in silver bag-----Paying $12.50 a bag if I purchase 6 bags plus at a time---I'm another that switch from Diamond and glad I did.

Like others I had to cut back on amount of food given to dogs per day---They started puting on weight--

I believe its a good dog food for money
