Grooming...

How often do you take your dog(s) to a professional groomer, or if done by you, how often do you do it?

I have a GSP so really no need fro a groomer. He gets baths as needed, if it were up to the dog he would like to get a bath everyday...

I will do mine about two weeks before a show. If there is no show, I let them be.

I do a lot of hand stripping. Rarely give baths maybe twice a year.

Every day after the hunt. Good way to check for cuts etc. Never over look the feet.

Once a week on the off season.

Yes even the GSP. He loves to be brushed.

Dogs should love to be groomed. It like petting them.

I have 2 shorthairs and a now ancient lab. Never been to a professional groomer. The shorthairs only get washed if they've been in deer poop or skunked. The youngest is a conformation ch, and I think I maybe washed her before 1 show. They are in the water a lot though, as I have a 900 gallon stock tank/dog pool in my front yard. So they're usually pretty clean. Toenails get done every couple weeks, and ears cleaned as needed. The lab is a constant brushing chore and blows coat for at least a solid month in the Spring...maybe longer. She creates 99% of the fur bunnies on my floor.

My GSPS very seldom get a bath only when something causes them to NEED one.
We use to raise & show Dobes & they only got a bath when they needed them.I know of show dogs that have never had a bath.
In alot of cases baths do MORE harm then GOOD!! :D

I use bath in a bottle if they need it and the same with a brushing.

i do it for my setters - for better or worse. They don't really care how they look. :)

I strip my wirehair whenever I start to notice his shedding getting out of control (usually if I need to sweep the floors more than once a week.) I only brush him after I strip him. I'll give him a bath with shampoo maybe 3 - 4 times a year, but I'll rinse him off fairly often. I used to give him a shampoo every other month but I think it started to dry out his skin and it just isn't necessary.
