Poison oak treatment

Got a question about poison oak: after your dog's been running through it, how would you treat it? The fear is the oil getting on my family and causing havoc. We live in So. Ore. where there is an abundance of it. So far I have purposely kept her away from it but I want to go on some outings where it can't be avoided. Is there a shampoo out there for it? Thoughts? Thanks.

Whatever soap or cleaner will remove dirty engine oil or grease from your hands most effectively will also be the most effective for removing poison oak or ivy oils on humans or dogs. Of course you'll be stripping natural body oils as well. Most hand dishwashing liquid soaps work okay. Products like GoJo & Fast Orange tend to be better at oil removal.

I've had success in eliminating the skin reaction after touching poison ivy if immediately afterwards I clean the area of my skin with Fast Orange. I've also reduced the size & length of the skin reaction by washing with mechanic's hand cleaners as soon as the reaction is noticed. One caution - avoid using abrasive cleaners with grit or pumice as the abrasion of the skin tends to increase an existing reaction.

Absolutely x100...Nothing better. A little expensive $35 for a tube at Wal-Mart but worth every dime. 1 - 2 applications and you're all good!

zanfel is awesome but if you don't want to spend the $$$ you can use bleach and water (50-50) it works may take a day or two longer.
