ACL Reconstructive Surgery (Human)

Post by ROTTnBRITT » Mon Apr 16, 2012 8:45 am

Anyone have this done? Have you had any problems after the surgery?

I had my knee done 12 yrs ago. I have never had full range of motion with it, but have never had any problems. Lately, if I dont keep moving it gets stiff and I limp around until it loosens up, and if I try to bend it past 90* its alittle painful. Ive had spell in the past for 2 or 3 days, usually after some kind of physical activity. But this has been going on for about 3 weeks now. I think it might be time to get it looked at just to see whats going on.

I had ACL and medial meniscus cartilage repair in 1995, it sounds like you have cartilage damage or inflammation of scar tissue that built up after the surgery and subsequent healing processes. With you saying you have never had full range of motion since surgery, sounds like this could very well be build up of scar tissue as the importance of restoring full range of motion back to the joint is to minimize scarring and wear on the joint over time. I would start with RICE (rest, ice, compression (brace), and elevation while sleeping with Advil dosage for 1 week to see if inflammation would reduce, if not off off to the Dr.

I had ACL reconstruction surgery in Novmeber, 2010...so 17 months ago. My ACL was 80% torn, confirmed on MRI. I opted to have it replaced with cadaver tendon instead of harvesting tissue from my patellar tendon, per my doctor's recommendation, since I was over 40 so cadaver tissue would be as good or better than my own, and my recovery would be shorter.

I've had no complications, had my full range of motion back after 3 months of physical therapy, was getting back up on my horse 6 months after the surgery, and except for a half-dollar sized spot in the middle of my knee where the bone graft incision is, I have no discomfort at all (and that is just numb but feels like my funny bone was hit when I kneel on it).

Prolly be a few weeks until I can get into a.specialist. I did a quick search on the scar tissue thing. I saw where they might be able to break up scar tissue with ultra.sound. If not have to get it surgically removed. I hope there is a fix for it anyways.

If you're in NE PA, going to Dr. Goldman at Tri-County Orthopedics in NJ (Cedar Knolls/Morristown area) is worth the trip. 973-538-2334

He's the knee guy for the Jets, and is supposed to be one of the best in the tri-state area.
