going up grouse hunting next week.What should I put on the dogs for ticks?

I put on Biospot every month. On the day of the hunt I put on either Hartz tick spray or Ortho Sevin powder. Both work excellent.

I use Adams flea & tick spray on the dogs, along with Frontline Plus.

Ticks and even fleas were horrible this spring on the east coast and i use a top of the line drops, I had great results out of the adam's flea and tick spray.....

Advantix is the most effective on ticks.

And you will because Frontline only works once they bite. I use Frontline and rarely does a dead tick stay attached, they drop off.

If ticks were bad where I live I would use Advantix but fleas are more of a problem.

Frontline. It won't stop the ticks from crawling on them, but they don't have to bite the dog to die. They die & fall off after about 10 minutes just from crawling on the dog. In heavy tick areas, I also spray my dog with Deep Woods Off. That helps keep the ticks off in the first place.

Plus ticks are bad in the fall like they are in the spring.

I have one coming in from Minnesota right now after a week in the grouse woods. He left with Frontline Topspot and a Preventic collar and had no problems, even with the unseasonably warm weather the first couple of days.

I heard you can't use deet products( Licking)...Can you use Absorbine for horses??? ...How much can you spray??
Bottle says you can use on dogs,then says Harmful if absorded in skin..Horses hides are thicker and don't lick themselves.
Ticks are so bad this year in Pa..I seen a dog with frontline come out after a 4hr. hunt with 30 ticks..
I use Bio Spot..What is the ingredients in Advantix? Bio and Absorbine both have (Permethrin)...Thanks for any info

The anti-tick ingredient in Advantix is permethrin, about the same percentage as it is in original BioSpot. I don't like UltraShield, the Absorbine spray, because of the quantity of aromatic essential oils in it. The caution is more for humans than animals, by the way. Fipronil paralyzes ticks, so they do get on the dog and may even start to attach. They do not have to bite to be affected, however.

I like the Preventic collars and have also had good success with Scalibor collars. The latter will withstand more water contact.

You ever get bug spray in your mouth? I've never had one of my dogs make that mistake twice either!

What brand of tick collars are you useing?

You can try 50/50 apple cider vinegar and see if it works for you. Just spray the dog until wet.

Seems to be effective but doesn't last long.

Actually, there were two dogs. The guy that pulled her out went back in because she said her "boys" were in the back. He got one. The other didn't make it. Thankfully, it was clarified before EMS arrived and initiated rescue. That sludge is NAS-TEE.

If you sleep with your dog, I would suggest breaking that habit during the tick season as well. My Dad is a urgent care doc and whenever someone tests positive for lyme disease the first thing he asks is whether or not they sleep with their dogs! More often than not, they do!
