Pro Pac Adult Chunk is about $25 for 44lbs and the 12th bag is free. It is actually quite a good food. SportMix Black Bag is around $25 for 50lbs. Also pretty good people like it. Made by the same company.

Under $20? Hmmm dunno.

Any store that carries one can get the other. More people on here have experience with SportMix Black Bag than the other but the Pro Pac is real good and has the coupons and free bags.

Just stick your zip in those links

they do have a-lot of fillers in them (corn and wheat) but I guess thats what you pay for. I use Ol' Roy, and probably cant get much worse than that

I hope that was a joke since corn and wheat are not fillers and for that matter there probably isn't a dog food made anywhere that would include a filler(sand).

These two are much better than Ole Roy. This company sells its super premium grain free, Earthborn, for 30% less than the competition.

I got a bag of Pro Pac dropped off at my house by the salt people by mistake. They said keep it and I was very impressed with it.

Really high quality product in my opinion and very well priced. Remember keep the coupons and cut off the UPC from the bag and tape it to the free bag card.

Peanut hulls are a filler, corn and wheat aren't.

I guess I wasn't remembering a conversation correctly. I thought I was told to stay away from foods with lot's of corn meal and wheat and rather stick with meats. You learn something new everyday :)

Hunter's Choice, Diamond Premium, and others. Ol'Roy is bad. Buy from an independantly owned feedstore if possible, or a chain feedstore that runs specials. When you figure it out, WalMart is more expensive.

22/16 is pretty low in protein but it is better than Ole Roy. Price that one, the Black Bag and the Red Bag and see what works for you.

Oh also check Black Gold. That is a popular one here.

Actually, 3 adults and one pup. but the 3 adults I spend 17 something (and tax) on a 44lb bag. I buy one bag every 2 weeks, conversation's sake 80 bucks a month or so. thats feeding them all 4 1/2 cups each once a day, I also mix some water and leftover meat into the food. Yes I have a Costco, but membership just lapsed. When I was shopping there I was tempted a couple times to get the Atta Boy

I bet if you fed the Costco Kirkland Chicken Rice 26/16 around $25 for 40#'s you would feed less than a cheaper food.

All the Diamond foods are priced right and are good foods, the high energy comes out at about .56 cents a pound. You should be able to find the Diamond brand at several locations close to you. Just go to their web sight and do a deeler locate. My dogs always did great on this food and I would still be feeding it if my pup would'nt get so gassed up on it, never happened with any other of my dogs. I know a lot of folks around here feed the sportmix but, I don't have any knowledge of this food except to say they seem to like it. Good luck finding what works for you and your budget! :D

I guess I should add that the high energy is often on sale for around $21 but is regular around $26 if that helps!

Until I can get down and get a couple bags of Diamond, I at least switched to a better food than Ol' Roy. Purina Dog Chow, I know.... It's not much better, but it is better. here's the link:

Yeah, it was a small dealer. Called the steve ragan company... lol, I tried another place, but they don't carry that anymore. I think there may be one more place I can look before I have to start with the whole online retail thing. I may try a feed called red flanel, they sell it at my local IFA (intermountain farmers assosciation)

All these places close to you sell Pro Pac & Sportmix. IMO you wont find better value than those feeds.

You also have Black Gold sold close to you. Another good choice. So between Pro Pac, Sportsmix, Diamond and Black Gold you should not have a problem finding a good feed. Here are the Black Gold Stores.

Ream's Food Stores
Harmon's 7th st.
Macey's
all the branch's of these stores carry it.

At some price point (both and high and low), there are diminishing and possibly negative returns. Foods that are too cheap are just not cost effective to feed.

$.63 cents lb is more than what it sells for here but still not a bad deal considering the high calories and overall quality.

I would check if cal ranch and sportmix have coupons and a frequent buyers program, you could get lucky and get freebies from both places. I know where Pro Pac is available by me the 10th bag is free from the retailer and the 12th is free from the manufacturer. Also, there are $2 off coupons in every bag.

Pro Pac and sportmix are made by the same company.

I saw the news that mentions about pet food that is suspected to have salmonella contamination. In the news they have mentioned that last Monday Nestle Purina PetCare recalled some 870 sacks of kitty food because of a potential infection of salmonella. The kitty food was distributed in a few different states but may were distributed further. The animals are not the only ones possibly facing risk. The infection could be moved to people handling the food or infected animals. Here is the proof: Purina recalls cat food for possible salmonella contamination
