Mature size
I have a 6 month old female GSP puppy. She currently weighs 42 lbs. How much bigger will she get when she is fully mature

Re: Mature size
Just averages, but I think she'd fill out a bit more.

Re: Mature size
If you know the size of her parents and grandparents that should give you a good idea as to how large she will be at maturity. Her dam and granddams' sizes are a good indicator.

Re: Mature size
I'm not real sure what my pup weighed at 6 months but she was probably in that range. Weighed 54lbs at her 1 yr check up.

Re: Mature size
It depends. I have a 4 year old female that weighs in around 47 lbs when she is in solid fighting weight. A pup of hers that I have weighs in at 54lbs at fighting weight and is very lean.
Re: Mature size
What Pam said is true, to get the closest answer you need to look at her parents and possibly her grandparents to get a close guess...
My male Gsp was about 42-43 lbs at 6 months, and hes pushing 70
My female gsp was i believe mid to high 30s at 6 months as is supposedly going to be just over 50 (50-55) when she is done.

I have a 6 year old GSP and she is very petite! She is extremely lean and all muscle, weighing in at 40-43lbs. Everybody always thinks she is still a puppy.
Re: Mature size
I've always heard as a rule of thumb that field dogs are usually 80% of their adult size at eight months with the caveat that females mature a bit faster than males.
Re: Mature size
That might have some truth do it. Some field (but not all) might have faster maturing dogs. My dog for example is 3 1/2 and is just now getting all the way there.Tejas wrote:I've always heard as a rule of thumb that field dogs are usually 80% of their adult size at eight months with the caveat that females mature a bit faster than males.

Re: Mature size
This is true. Dogs will continue to grow for a couple of years but the last little bit is the slowest.
Re: Mature size
The dog i purchased was the runt of the litter. hes about 11months now and is only 45lbs. although in the last few months i haven't noticed any height increase but hes getting more muscular even with the little bit of weight loss from the hunting season. the reason we picked the runt was because he was the only pup with the coloring we wanted the rest were brown/white with no ticking. not to mention my wife fell in love with "the cute little one"
