Fly Control

Post by high2 » Sat May 17, 2008 10:17 am

New to the board and I have a question. I have just moved from NE Oklahoma to NW Oklahoma(closer to the pheasants and grandbaby). My 2 GSP are being eaten alive by flies. I never had this problem on the east side. What is the best thing to use on them? Thanks for the help, Larry

Try this article:

And here are some products for your dogs:

I would also contact the local Ag department and seek their input. If these are the blood thirsty type of flies, then with Oklahoma being a cattle state, they will be a great resource. Maybe some of those hanging fly tapes or traps might be an option too.

Tfbirdog2, Would you recomend the predetor fly? I have been considering them, but have not bought any, cause i was not sure they would work. could you tell a differance? My kennels have a sewer run off that goes underground about 40 ft from the kennels, it then runs out into a small lagoon(6 ft x 6 ft) and down the hill into a cattle pen/pasture. It is my understanding that I would want to put the predetors in and aroud the run off/lagoon. I do not realy have a problem with flys, but anything that will help keep them at bay I would like to do.

I used them for about 4 months and when it was bad I could see a difference. If they are not a problem I think it would just be choice. You have to put the in fresh poo to hatch.I dumped them on the ground and raked pin into a pyle over the top, you know they are working when you find hallow poo logs.

This is a little trick I picked up while camping one year. Hang zip-loc bags filled with water all around your kennel high enough that your dogs cannot get to them. I do not know why but we did that around our camp one year and it kept the flys away and they were horrible. I have not tried it with my kennel but I intend to this year so we will see if it works here too.

that is practiced a lot in Mexico at food markets. I learned that when I was pretty young going over to Mexico with my family. Seems to work.
