Quick Energy
Hey all,
I did a little searching and found some information on this subject, but basically I'm trying to figure out what would be the best thing to have in my dog bag at field trials and hunting for quick energy. For example, last weekend I was at the NSTRA region elimination trial and had to run two 30 minute braces and then a 1 hour final in the same day. We gave my dog some Nutri-Cal and someone recommended feeding him a PB&J sandwich thinking the jelly might give him some quick energy. Im not sure if both helped or just one but he put in a good run and only really tired out the last 10 minutes or so of the final run. Is Nutri-Cal something that will give him quick energy or do I need to carry something else like honey or something like that? Or maybe something like this http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.j ... Re: Quick Energy
That is nearly the same as NutriCal.

I noticed that. Is nutrical quick energy?
Re: Quick Energy
Try Annamaet Impact or chunks of coconut fat. Coconut fat is often used by weight lifters for that extra push. The fats in coconuts are metabolized differently and much faster than animal fats or other vegetable oils.

Yes. It is basically sugar and fat. I don't know if you can get it where you are, but frozen BilJac us our go to for quick boosts. Zoom Dog has something new out that's gotten good reviews, but I've not tried it.romeo212000 wrote:I noticed that. Is nutrical quick energy?

If you are feeding a good quality feed try using glyco charge immediately after running. You only have a very short window to replenish the glycogen levels after hard work. Dogs burn glycogen prior to using stored fat for those quick bursts. I try to get it on mine within 15 minutes. Its important you don't load with sugars that can actually be worse.

Pretty much anything with a high percentage of Maltodextrin. I've used Gylcocharge and human-oriented "Weight Gainers".
