Good Resource for Raw Products

Post by mcbosco » Sun Jul 25, 2010 6:12 pm

I have been meaning to put up this link but keep forgetting. I have gotten some great raw stuff from pastured animals from farmers like this for a song.

There is a state by state directory.

For by-products? One of the first farms listed is close to me and actual meat is expensive. Rightfully so because it is organic and free range but for meat cuts....more exp.

maybe they have green tripe

Our local organic ranch is listed on there. Not sure what I could buy from them to feed to dogs though. Except their neighbors German Shepard at lamb one night.
$6 a dozen for eggs.

Yes the by-products and trimmings at very modest prices. I have been lucky in the past with farms like this.

I've got an even cheaper source: It's called a garden and a shotgun

Beef ain't the only meat out there :P And you can't get more 'organic' than wild fed venison, pork, turkey, duck, quail, pheasant, etc. I clean out my freezer and garden every summer and mix in some rice and yogurt. Dogs love it and it's super cheap.

Once you make connections, getting things at reasonable price is easy. With the amount of deer that are taken in NJ having a good relationship with just one processing center is enough. One member of the forum PM'd me last week about a rancher right near his house that sells freshly slaughted tripe for about 50 cents a lb. I gathered that he passed this farm many times not knowing it was available.

If you live near ethnic pockets, particularly Muslim, Halal butchers have cheap great quality goat & lamb organs that are processed and stored under the most stringent conditions you can imagine.
