Field trialers, what game do you play?

Post by Karen » Mon Dec 17, 2007 10:05 pm

Just curious how many horseback/walking/american field/akc/nstra trialers are on list. If you participate in more than one of the options in the poll, pick the one you do the most or enjoy the most.

We prefer the horseback trials, but do do both walking and horseback trials. We only attend 1-2 walking trials a year. We're to lazy to walk to much and don't want our dogs to learn to range to close to frequently. Besides, why walk when you can ride? :D

I agree with Erica. I do horseback and walking but prefer horseback.

I've only been involved with horseback, so here's a dumb question;
In a walking Trial, Does your scout have to be a marathon runner? That's gotta be rough.

NSTRA got me started, now I will be running walking trials and some cover dog.

I believe US Complete allows a scout to be on horseback.

Bill, only handler's are on foot, the rest of the normal world stays on horseback. I hate walking trials, I'm just too fat!!

I started at walking, tried NSTRA and then went to AKC horseback and walking, went to all AKC horseback and that is where we are now.

The poll for me would be AKC Horseback and American Field horseback, one hour championships. That is what I love the most at present. Win the hour and it might ruin you.

The GSPCA National Championships are a great joy for me as well, love the allage hour in Eureka.

Out here I prefer the open AF championship trials - they most approximate the type of hunting I do out in my neck of the woods. I can think of a handful of the trial venues that are places we actively go hunting during the hunting season and they typically have native bird finds in the trials.

I did do an AKC walking trial this spring and had a blast - I love walking, despite being fat and out of shape!! :lol: :lol:

Worked through the AKC Master Hunter level at hunt tests, now we're running NSTRA and have had a little beginners luck, hope to try AKC walking trials sometime in the future.

First trials were NSTRA years ago with my old wirehair, have done some walking trials and still apperciate the venue but the legs arent what they used to be and am almost doing exclusively horseback trials. Might hit 1-2 walking trials depending on timing and such.

Started out with AF walking stakes in '94, went to akc horseback stakes in '96 with MR. Jim Batson, left the game for awhile fot back into AKC and AF horseback trials with Dennis Brath, and back to AF walking stakes. I prefer the AF walking stakes around here, it's like a big family, it's close, it's cheaper. And tons of good birddogs here in Illinois.
