Are your dogs Microchipped?

Post by Karen » Sun Dec 02, 2007 2:11 pm

I was just wondering how many of us microchip. I have 4 dogs and all 4 are chipped.

No, but I may do this however. Close to a grand for the pup, and by end of next summer I will have another grand in her on training. Plus, we like her if you haven't noticed :)

I live so far out in the country where the people's dogs roam the place. I keep mine kenneled up all the time but I do worry about them being stolen from home or the back of the truck. I wish there was a tracking device instead of just the microchip.

All 3 of mine are chipped.
So are all the puppies I have sold so far.
We have to chip or tatoo here in Canada in order to register with the CKC.
Chipping is a whole lot easier and seems better able to get dogs back home.

Both of my Adult dogs are chipped by Avid. My new pup will be shortly.
I'm not sure that it will do any good in Utah, however. Our Neighbor had their lab chipped and the pound didn't even bother to check until they called. Seems that it isn't a priorty for them.

Yes, both our dogs are chipped. I think it is a good last defense if the collar or the tags come off.

Yes all my dogs execpt one (DD tattoo in ear),and all my puppieshave chip due to my Health Guarantee so i have a way of knowing this is the from my kennel. Home again is the brand. But not all vets and shelters can scan for differant brands so since i have had the DD i have been thinking of tattoos instead of the micro chip just a thought one or the other is a must.

I see more and more using universal scanners ...Even I have a universal scanner and have been able to read chips from Over seas as we have a few clients who had dogs shipped over and from Canada and home again chips and my scanner is from AVID

so thankfully that is becoming the more norm practice versus the specailty scanners of yesteryear

I know this is an old poll but always relevent.

Mine are chipped but now I'm not sure why.

Not all animal control centres have the wand ( learned this) and not all vets check a new dog coming in.

I had a chipped dog stolen , never to be seen again. I assume it went to a vet at some point.

absolutely...saved my my butt when my wife's phoofie Prince Charles Spaniel darted out the door and took off. Honestly, hated that dog so much, wasn't worried about the $2K it cost, was worried about possible alimony payments if she were to divorce me for losing that silly dog.

I haven't chipped my dog yet but am considering it. The only problem is the newer chips (2003-up) are not compatible with the old scanners. It's better to be safe then sorry but this is an issue that should be addressed. You pay to have your dog chipped so he might get detected at the pound. I keep a brass ID tag on his collar and the only way for him not to be identified by that would be if someone took if off. If someone takes it off, he's probably not going to be scanned.

We went the chipped route instead of tattoo and the new pup will be chipped as well. Trying to minimize the aspect of her getting stolen or lost from us.
