Dog Portraits
Dog Portraits
Hello, I am hoping to get some feedback from you avid hunter types (like my brother). I'm wondering if those of you with beloved hunting dogs would consider having their portrait painted as a memorial and remembrance. I am gearing up for marketing my animal portraiture and your two cents would be much appreciated.
Many thanks,
Andrew Kenyon

Much would be decided based on costs.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!
Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

What I was hoping to do when I every time I lose one is put their leather collar, a photo, and a couple memories (written) all in one frame for my the wall of my office at home. A potrait would fit nicely into something like that if it is done for a reasonable price and can really capture the individuality of each dog.
I have a really great pincil drawing of an old springer of mine, love it. Checked into a painting of my old Hannah and just couldn't afford to have it done. So, what I do is portraits on my own of my dog's with film. When they are gone I convert them to b/w, matt and frame them.

I had a painting done of my female Dixie a couple years back. The artist actually saw the photo on a messsage board and emailed me asking if she could paint it. I was flattered and said yes asking for first right of refusal of the painting when it was done.
It is now hanging in the house and it is great to have a painting of her. It will be cherrished forever.
It was done by a local Ontario artist from Timinins.

We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare.
And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made.

Thanks for sharing!
Hi Maverick,
Thanks for sharing that image. I always love to see what other artist's are doing and her work is wonderful.

The following portrait is how I met my wife. Her mother (now my MIL) commissioned me to paint her Brittany's and brought my future wife along with her for the unveiling. 12 years and three kids later.... The older Brittany was 17!! He died soon after the portrait was completed and it suddenly took on a whole new meaning to my mother in law. :• )

Thank you! I am sure that you are already familiar with photographing your dogs but just in case, take a look at my 'how to phototgraph your pet' for a portrait. But as I said, this is probably redundant info for you.
Many thanks,

Your very adament about no flash and outdoors. While I agree with you about the light and the perspective, I think good photo's can aslo be done indoors with a flash. This is one I did of my old dog a couple years ago. Good enought?

I agree with you regarding indoor lighting. My Photo Tips are for the average person who is going to be photographing their dogs with their handy, dandy, everyday camera. The shot of your dog is beautiful. It's clear that there is strobe lighting being used because I can see the nice transition between light areas and dark. There is a nice shadow on the back and yet the front and chest are well lit. It looks like there may have been at least two strobes set up. It looks very professional and if I could paint from more photos like yours I'd be in heaven. Didn't mean to say it couldn't be done, only that the average Joe can still get a great shot of their dog using some of the tips I mentioned.

I've had numerous portraits done of some of the gsps we've owned/trained/campaigned as well as some of our house pets as well. I love having it done and just wish I had more wall space or my husband would build onto so I could have a room just for pictures and portraits. Here's a few that I've had done.
