I have owned, trained, and hunted over several of the breeds listed. If I were to list my top 5 choices, it would be:
1. GWP
2. GSP
3. Pointer
4. Vizsla
5. English Setter

Your not nailing me down that easy. I'd go for top five:
1) E. Setter, GPS, E Pointer
2) Vizla, Brittany
Of course this is not really fair as I've never seen a decent Red Setter and I'd like to. I've also never seen a Gordon that did it for me But have heard some are very good?

My second bird dog was a Brittany. I don't think I'll make that mistake twice.Danro wrote:Wow. That sure is a funny way to spell Brittany.wannabe wrote: 1. GWP

I am not a big fan of Britt's but one of my favorite dogs I ever worked with was a Britt. Matter of fact I'd have gladly owned her. If one is all you tried, don't condem them all to soon. What didn't you like about it?wannabe wrote:My second bird dog was a Brittany. I don't think I'll make that mistake twice.Danro wrote:Wow. That sure is a funny way to spell Brittany.wannabe wrote: 1. I've hunted behind all kinds, and can't find a flaw with any breed. A good dog is a good dog. So long as they hunt the way I want 'em to hunt, and all will with proper training, I'll take 'em.
One misconception I had when getting my dog was that a smaller dog would be more suited to apartment life (I was still in school when I got my viz, Justus). I quickly found out that the size of the dog does not have any impact whatsoever on its exercise requirements. Small dogs still need as much exercise as bigger dogs. Therefore, now I believe that just about any pointing breed will be okay so long as you like what you're getting into with them.

I personally hate to see any hunting dog breed be the most popular. I do own 5 of them however.
