which e-collars for a Pointer?

Post by Shimmie » Wed Jul 13, 2011 10:40 am

i've been considering the use of an e-collar. we've open country and this e. Pointer can really cover some ground.

my first choice is: the SportDog 1225. it is 3/4mile and It comes out of the box set up in MODE-1 (an 8-level continuous + 8-level momentary stimulation one dog collar with a separate tone button), but it can easily be changed into 7 different modes with different button configurations. http://www.gundogsupply.com/sportdog-12 ... 1-dog.html could someone give me a good or bad review of the Sportdog or even this model?

i've looked at some longer ranging e-collars in the same price range but they don't allow one to add collars. here is a Sportdog model w/ 1.5 mile range. http://www.lcsupply.com/SportDog-ProHun ... fo/PH2400/

i've also looked at the bestseller with only 1/2 mile range. this allows more collars to be added. Tritronics basic G3. but i'd like more than 0.5 mile range. http://www.gundogsupply.com/tri-tronics ... basic.html

looking for reviews of people who have used these collars personally. mostly, do they break down? do people have to send them back for repair?

Just bought the SportDog 1825.

i'll use the George HIckox videos

thanks for the suggestions. i spoke to DT systems, and several other mfg'ers. i felt most comfortable with the SportDog guarantee and the vendor, Lyon Country Supply.

Gentlemen,
We use the older 2000 Dogtra T&B collars most, we also use the new DT H20 T&B. Both work very very well.

I was at a local Gander Mountain and they were closing out the TT G3 Upland with the old beeper for $350 cheapest I have seen. I believe they normally go for around $500. I picked up the TT field 90 for $240.

I've had GREAT success with the Tritronics products. I use nick most of the time, so I have a Pro 200.
I have English Pointers because they don't ever grow up either...

If you go this route by the Flyway not the Pro 200, they are the same exact unit except for the sticker, that "pro" sticker costs an extra $30.

it was suggested i use a "whoa pole" by a very experienced person. i don't take this suggestion lightly. he said i should use a real whoa pole rather than a tree or park bench.

i have been using a tree in the back yard. what am i missing? what is not provided by the backing of a tree vs a whoa pole?
