When To Breed

Post by 3Britts » Fri Jul 04, 2008 6:18 am

When do you prefer to breed and why?

I tend to breed in the Fall as I just don't have enough time during the other season of the year to help with whelping and taking care of the puppies. As my wife points out, the dogs are mine as is the decision to breed so, I should be around to help with he daily care. True enough.

The warmer it is the more bugs you ahve to contend with
flys are the worst can spread more things then you can shake a stick at

I raise indoors but still prefer cooler weather

also having a market for the pups before they are conceived...People do not come knocking on the door to buy up all the pups

so have a plan for pups that do not sell right away or if at all
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
"When I hear somebody talk about a horse or cow being stupid, I figure its a sure sign that the animal has outfoxed them." Tom Dorrance
If you feel like you are banging your head against the wall, try using the door.

I like fall. its easiest for me pup are born in Dec Jan. there about the right age to get out and explore that spring and then you have that fall to run the puppies as there half growed up. Seems to be a good time for me just hate the cost to keep them warm in the winter when its real cold.

PS did you buy Ron from Doug Sieckmeyer??

I did get Ron from Doug.
I was really sorry to hear that his mom was shot last year.
Because of that, I make those who hunt behind my dogs understand that they are not to shoot in the grass.

Doug told me that she was one quailifing away from her MH in an email last fall. From what I've heard, all of the pups from that breeding have become excellent hunters.
