Looking into buying a new over and under for hunting. Probably going to buy a 12ga with 28" barrels. Really like the feel and fit of the Remington Premier. Any other suggestions?

Look at the CZ Canvasback. I've got a 20 gauge 28" and just love it. Pretty good fit and finish, handles and shoots well and didn't break the bank to get either.

Love my Beretta Whitewing. Got a good deal off of Gunbroker for it, too.

There are lots of good O/U's out there. I'm sure I said it somewhere before, but before I settled on a Browning, I was seriously considering a Franchi Renaissance. I also considered the Remington Premier RGS Edition in 20 gauge, but I'm pretty sure that if I hadn't found the Browning in 16 gauge, then a Franchi 20 ga. would almost certainly be in my safe right now.

Loving my Franchi Renaissance 12. Hitting more clays than I did with my 870.

In that price range, I would look at an SKB.

Think that you hit it on the head. No matter what make or brand, if it does not fit and feel good, you will never be happy. would go with fit and feel.

Shoulder several and check the fit. I'm long and lean, the longer LOP of the Berettas fit me best. I shoot a PF Edition 686 12 ga.

Check out Lanbers too. They are starting to catch on in the states. they are quite popular in the UK and Australia. The Lanber 2087 field model 12 gauge can be picked up here for about $700. I think CDNN has some. They go for well over a grand or more overseas.

I have 4 Lanber o/u's. They are made in Spain. They come with a 5 year warranty serviced in Michigan.

Gander still has some NIB Veronas floating around. . . .they are now imported under the Milano name by Savage and selling for $1200-$1500. . .I just ordered the last 28 gauge in for $699. . . some of the 12s/20s are around $500 NIB on clearance.

I would have a serious look at the Franchi Renaissance line. The field grade is a beautiful gun and you can get one her in OKlahoma at Outdoor Outfitters for $999.00. Also look at the Cortona Grande. Its a little higher, but Its a beautiful gun.

I would suggest that you find something other than a Remington Premier that fits you well. WDO

if you are not on a tight budget a ruger red label is an excellent gun, my dad has one and i shoot it alot, love the feel of it and is just a great gun, but is not cheap by any means.

I take it you are not a fan of the Remington Premier? What don't you like about it?

The biggest drawback to these guns is the lack of history and there aren't many out there. A person should buy an O/U so they can shoot it for the rest of their lives and then pass it on to their heirs so that they can enjoy it. That means that one wants a quality gun that was sold in large numbers. The Premiers that are being made by Sabatti in Italy for Remington have only been out a couple of years and I would bet they drop them soon or change suppliers. I do know of some that have had problems with the barrell selector/safeties on them. WDO

I don't know where you are located. If there is an Academy around close go look at the Yildiz they import. When I was looking I tried several and finally chose the Yildiz. I got a SPZ ME 20 gauge for hunting. I just love it, fair price, light weight, swings good, and took a bunch of Pheasant down this year for me.

What do you mean by that. Briley in Texas will handle all the warranty work on it so repairs and warranty are not a problem. I also own a yildiz and have to say it is a fine shotgun.

Let’s just say its 10 or 20 or 30 or more years down the road. I'm sure you could find someone to work on it. Getting parts will be another story. It WILL break at some point or need to be tightened. You will be lucky to get timely repairs, if at all. I've never shot one. That's not to say they aren't OK guns. But, it's just a fact that there will not be too many out there. For instance, take the early SKB O/U models. Although there were 100's of thousands of those models sold here in the US, try to find a new forearm for one. It was a common problem for the stock one to develop a crack at the front bottom. Now transpose that or a similar problem to your model or another model that sold 1000's not 100's of thousands. I'm not putting down your Yildiz.... just how it works...that's all. WDO

WDO, I didn't think you were putting down my gun. Getting parts that far down the road may be a concern. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there. I use it for hunting mainly. It does the job I need it to do, and does it nicely. I saved enough money on the purchase that I was able to get myself another week of hunting in with my my dogs this season So I'm happy with that

I noticed in another thread that you said the same thing about the F.A.I.R. line (Verona/Savage Milano/Cortona). I would say that statement would be untrue, F.A.I.R. has been around longer than I have been alive. I would say that they are a great company that just had a bad distributor in the US with BC Outdoors/PMC Ammo.

What I said was that I knew a guy who had to wait 8+ weeks for parts on a Verona gun that was 6 months old. Nothing untrue about that.

It's funny that you should bring up Savage. I had a Savage bolt action .22 that was bought new in the mid 70's. It needed some parts that were broke. I looked for nearly 2 years for replacement parts for that gun. Never did find any. I destroyed the gun this past summer. WDO

Anyway, I think the F.A.I.R. line of shotguns are great, fit me well and I just picked one up at a great price.

And the reason you mentioned about poor customer service is one of the reasons that BC went under. . . F.A.I.R. is still a reputable gun maker, just a poor US distributor.

I have read a lot of positive reviews regarding Yildiz over and unders. Most people seem to be very pleased with them, and for the price I think it would make an excellent field gun. I live no where near Academy Sports but was lucky enough to track one down on another forum, it should be arriving any day now.

I hope it will satisfy my over and under itch until I can save up enough scratch to pick up a Guerini.

Well, like you said, Cole is a lot better place, but I'm sure Beretta USA stays plenty busy with all the servicing they have to do. . .heck, it seems like the two times I had to call them my phone batteries ran out while waiting on hold.

I never call Beretta for anything. I wait till the US Open or the Grand and have Beretta go thru my guns there. I've never had one go "down" yet. Slightly over 100,000 rounds thru the 12. And just getting the 20 broke in.

A friend of mine just picked up the two-barrel set, the 20/28 in the Renaissance line. Haven't seen the gun yet except off the Franchi website, but they look nice. He'll probably have it today showing it off at the club. I hope he shoots the 28 gauge...I want the empty hulls!

I saw it today, real nice...classic combo I believe is the name 20-28.

So he mentions, looks like I'll have to invest in a 28 reloader, with these nice AA hulls...bummer.

This is a New Turkish Yildiz 20ga O/U I purchaced for my son cost $675.00 Canadian Light has a nice feel but I was sceptical that has changed and I will be purchasing a second very soon at just shy of 6 lbs and 28 inch barrel this is a beautiful shooting gun. High end in Canada for yildiz is $2165.00. I would guess U.S. would be $400.00 to $1500.00
I would check them out.
