Gunsmithing on a Valmet Lion

Post by oldbeek » Mon Jul 22, 2019 3:55 pm

I have a Valmet Lion 16 ga that I have fired at least 20,000 rounds through. 5.5 lbs carries and points like a dream. Recently after I was bragging about this 72 year old gun, it broke a selector spring. None to be found. Made new one out of .015 feeler gauge stock .120 wide and about 1 inch long. Special curves on each end. Well anyway, it was an exact copy.Put it together and it fired both triggers. RATS, After a while I took it apart and found where it didn't get the trigger assy set in properly. Works fine now. On an older gun world site a guy took his apart to do deep cleaning and after reassembly it fired both barrels. No one on that site had an answer. I wonder if he ever found his mistake. It fits together perfectly, both the right and wrong way.

There's a gunsmith in Phelan CA named Les Pittman. He mostly works on high end guns, but is a nice guy and my experience is he treats all customers well. He was with Pachmyr back in the day. (760)868-2424
