is there a decent lightweight 20 or 28 gauge that can be had for $500 - $600 ? I have no problem buying used to get into the price range. I've been using a spanish Lanber O/U in 12 gauge that I like a lot, but I am thinking about a lighter gun for longer days when we walk more than shoot

Save up another $500 and get a used beretta or browning.

I bought my Browning Citori for $700 a few years back. If you look hard enough, you can find inexpensive used.

Its not Browning or Beretta quality, but a well made gun for the $.

If you're close to the southeast I'm thrilled with my Yildiz. Sold at Academy, sometimes they pop up on Gun Broker.

2x on the yildiz. I have a 12 and 20. Great guns for $430 plus tax!

DudeRN, that's precisely why I went to the smaller gauges - tons of walking and I'm not getting any younger BUT it all depends on your definition of "decent". I agree with gooseman07.
If we apply my definition of decent (which can vary for us all), then a used gun is possibly an option but even then $500 is a restrictive "snack bracket".
I sold my 25 year old 20 gauge Beretta 686S - still in good shape - for $600 to my son's friend. He could never otherwise have acquired a quality O\U for more $$$ than that. He LOVES it! Just take your time and wait out something that will be nice now AND will hold it's value moving forward, as long as you look after it.
There's a HUGE cavernous difference between "real cheap" and "good value".

I do not shoot a browning or Barretta well. they do not fit me. I do a pretty good job with my CZs, I own 2. I am about to buy a Yiddish in either 20 or 28 from the academy that was put in not too far from here.

Save a few more $$. And get a franch instinct L. I got one in 20 ga. It's a dream to carry and shoot. 7 year warranty. Picked mine up for 850.

If you can find a used Ruger red label in 28 ga. straight stock, jump on it. Sweet and light.

For under 600 bills? I want't one of these but, see them going for 1500 plus, not sure they are worth that. Think I would rather have a 680 Beretta or even a cenergy. Agree they are sweet guns just wish they hadn't got so over priced.

I found a Savage Milano in 28 ga that is a heck of a deal. Paid 800 bucks I think, It's on a scaled receiver, 28', long forcing cones, decent trigger, ejectors 6.2 lbs and good fit and finish. These guns were made by FAIR Rizzini imported for just a few years by savage. Most people don't know what they are and can be had for a song.
