franchi 48 AL 12 gauge parts

Post by dougroch » Tue Apr 17, 2012 12:11 pm

Bought my Franchi 48 AL 12 gauge back in the mid 90's with $$$ from my HS graduation and 18th birthday. I am now in my mid 30's and it is still my favorite bird hunting gun. I didn't give it the care it deserves in my drunken early-mid 20's. The receiver, trigger and barrel of the gun are still in excellent/good condition but the stock and fore end of the gun are pretty beat up from years of hunting with it, etc... Trying to find replacement wood for it that is similar to the factory original but am having no luck. Franchi quit making this model in 12 gauge some years ago so that is probably adding to my problem. I would also like to replace the barrel at some point as it has a few dents in the vent rib but is in great shape otherwise. Any ideas on where I should search? Google results are fruitless! Also looking to buy a semi-atuo 20 gauge, want to try a different brand than franchi but want a gun of similar quality and doubt the wife won't let me in the door if I spend more than $1000. Any recommendations?

I would think you could find a used Benelli for less than 1k. I picked up a M1 for $550, never been shot about 2 years ago. Or I just saw a couple Winchester SX3 in 20 ga. for $950. I would like to have one of those as they feel good when coming up to my shoulder. I shoot a Franchi 612 in 12 ga. most of the time.
