Call me crazy Dawg, but I like the looks of the 887. I know they had some problems early on with some of the bolts being way out of spec, they were causing some slamfire's. Looked at em pretty hard yesterday at a gun show, shouldered well, good balance to them, felt good once you got past the plasticiness (is that a word?) of it. I have not heard much about them so I figured there must have been a reason for that.

Thanks.

My buddy bought one to replace his 870 guess which one stays in the truck when he hunts..........887 he said it had problems firing and cycling rounds. I'll ask him more this weekend and let you know but he prefers his old 870

Now , would I do that

I personally can't abide by a Remington....

I shoot either a BPS or a Win 1300 , mostly.

Went and looked at one a little closer tonight at the local gunshop, they remind me alot of a Nova for some reason. I think it's the ribbed forestock and plastic feel. Not sure I could get pass that feel.

Don't have any personal experience with that Howie, just from what the dealers at the gun show and my local gunsmith have been saying. Not a warm fuzzy about the gun after talking to my gunsmith about them. His quote to me was "They're no 870 thats for sure".

Chip ol buddy..Pick you up a Beretta and never look back. I keep pounding birds with my old Beretta and never have had a problem. I have even gotten real good at shooting it one handed, holding the e collar and bird launcher remotes in one hand and gun in the other.

I shot that ole Beretta if I remember correctly, nice gun too. I have a Beretta O/U, a Rem 1187, an old Stevens pump was looking for another pump to use for deer slugging....I'll grab me up a used 870 or an Ithaca Deer slayer.... :D

If your looking for a shotgun to hunt just deer with might i suggest a savage bolt action in 20ga that's what i use It has better ballistics than your standard 12ga pump and doesn't blow your shoulder out either. I bought mine brand new and was still very affordable.

You Sir are a mind reader I looked at that very gun today in a 12 and a 20, the 20 was a nice gun but it had a laminated stock and in my opinion those are great if you entertaining kids at the circus, its pretty like a rainbow.. ......
However the 12 was exceptionally nice a 200 series maybe like a 210 model rifled barrel, almost like a bull barrel very thick walled drilled and plate mounted already for a nice price....that Sir looks like a nice weapon...........I like the versatility of remington 870 wingmaster...the new expresses are sub par and actually I am looking at a wingmaster dated from 1953 to buy......I love older used guns they tell a story if you listen real hard.....
Seriously though my gunsmith has a savage 210 and he is dead on at a 100 yds with Lightfields...and a 3" drop at 150 yds with them....ballistically he said they are hard to beat and he highly reccomends them.....
Thanks for the heads up gittrdonebritts I appreciate it.
The 1187 will have to do for this year....

I can surely relate to that, the Savage is on the short list along with the Ithaca Deerslayer. A dedicated slug gun
Is on that list with a good scope.

If your loking for a slug gun then buy a slug gun. the best you can hope for with the 887 is a smoothbore and IC choke slinging foster type slugs. I got a couple of buddies who won 887s at banquets last year and duck hunted with them a few times and sold them. the ones I saw had gritty actions and the guys shooting them just plain didnt like them.

A limit on the strap is nice, but the kill has nothing to do with tradition.

I know this is very late post, but I bought an 887 this past summer,it has survived deer season putting 4 in the freezer,2 hogs at least a hundred ducks, yes I even dropped it out of my boat had to find it in the swamp gave 'er a quick wipe down shot of kroil and hunted the rest of the day, dozens of rabbits squirrels and prolly couple hundred dove, since it's purchase in june I have shot at a low estimation 3500 rounds through it I skeet shoot 2 days a week, and sadly my dad ole 870 wingmaster sits int he closet now because I love this gun,in the beginning I had some double feed issues but they were my fault 1/2 pumping in excitement, being left handed I love the pump release and it's great with some big heavy gloves on while in the blind,I have not shot a single slug through it,now I will tell you if you put an extended turkey choke in it,it will tear up the coating on the end of the barrel, no big deal nothing 30 seconds with a dremel didn't fix, but the #1 thing I absolutely love about the gun is I don't cry if I scratch it,don't have to worry about re-bluing the barrel after a long day of salt water rain in the blind, first day I put 300 rounds through it,swabbed the barrel stuck it in the closet, took it out the next weekend and shot 200 more rounds without incident,I might be lucky as heck with this gun I don't know but I have used it to knock down briars in the woods,a walking stick in the swamp and one time a paddle in my pirogue, not gonna get into that story, shoulders great recoil is low, still thumps with 3 1/2's but not a killer I have bought one for my nephew and would recommend this to anyone looking for a well constructed budget gun
