New Rem 870 w/ pheasant & bird dog engraving

Post by Nebraska » Tue Jul 14, 2009 12:48 am

I just picked up a new 870 from Dam Road Gun Shop and thought I'd post some pics. It has really nice Claro Walnut (not the Realwood laminate) with engraved pheasants flushing on one side and a bird dog on the other side. I've always been an 870 fan and when I saw this one I HAD to have it.....

That is a beautiful stock on that gun. Fantastic engraving scenes as well. I second dmadis' comment, that is the nicest 870 I have ever seen as well.

That's a better looking stock than you see on most $1500. sxs and o/u guns-if you don't mind, how much does it sell for?

Very nice, good find. Was it pricey? Not that it matters just wondering.

I believe that is an 870 Wingmaster not the express. The wingmaster if you can find them are somewhere between $400 & $500 i believe. You pay more for the extras! :)

Ok I am going to ask a legitimate question here, I am not trying to bash the 870 but what are the extras? To me the 870 has always been an inexpensive and utilitarian firearm that is expertly engineered and works great but nonetheless very plain. My first shotgun was an 870 and always looked at it as an intrductory firearm that you move up from. JMO. That 870 with the really fancy stock and the engraving is really nice but not worth paying $700 extra for. I have a place here where I can get the engraving done cheaper than that and can order a really nice stock and refinish it myself cheaper than $700 as well. Yes I have and will again refinish stocks and also the blueing and some gunsmithing for myself and family and friends as well. It really isn't that hard so I don't see the need to charge so much for it.

You can't buy an 870 WINGMASTER for $300 if you can buy them for that you better snatch them up.870 express yeah all day long for $300 or less.I doubt you can buy a used WINGMASTER for $300 unless it's really beat up & some one needs money. There is a difference in fit & finnish wood, bluing, etc.

that fancy 870 is only about $75 more than the standard wingmaster, seems worth the premium to me

Sorry for not responding sooner, I just saw these replies......

IIRC, I paid $675 (on Gunbroker) for that 870 which is probably too much but when I saw that engraving and wood, that was all she wrote (and I'm not even a fancy wood guy)!! I have a couple Express 870s and a Weatherby Orion III already but this Wingmaster his fast becoming my favorite!!

FWIW, I saw one just like this in a Scheel's (Omaha) once and I believe it may have even been less expensive than this one (before tax) so if this 870 is up your alley, you might check the Remington shotguns section the next time in a Scheel's or talk to your local shop about ordering one in for you.

One other note, on the Remington site, they list this shotgun (#82000) as having engraved pheasant and duck scenes and mine obviously has pheasant/pointer scenes so this might be a special run of some kind too......
