What o/u would you get and why? I'm looking to purchase a new gun and wanted to hear some feedback. Thanks.

I would buy a reasonably cheap gun that is in good shape and put the rest of the money away so it would be there for something I need later or my retirement.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

A used or clearance one. . . .lots of good deals on former $3000-$5000 guns for under $2000 right now.

There are a lot worse places to put your money right now. . .guns are a pretty good investment right now, a lot better than the market.

I am a 20 ga. O/U shooter. I have a Beretta Silver Pigeon I. It is nice, but sits in a safe because I also have a Franchi Veloce in 20 ga. For about $300-$400 less, the Franchi is a far nicer gun to shoot as well as carry. I think the Silver Pigeon retails for about $1900 and the Franchi for about $1500.

I agree with omega58. You can buy a used 3k gun that looks like new for 1500 or a new gun for 2000 thats only worth 800 after you leave the stores parking lot

I say only get a new one if you can't find what you want used. Just make sure it fits you. I have not had a good experience with parts service from Franchi. I'll leave it at that.

I think any money spent over 2K is spent solely for nicer wood, nicer engraving, etc. There are plenty of very good guns out there for under the 2K mark.

Personally, I like Berettas. They fit me right and are very dependable. I bought a used Whitewing a few years ago for $800 off of Gunbroker. It's mechanically identical to guns costing 3x as much. It meets my needs and I like it, but If I had an extra 2K to spend, I'd probably look at a 20 gauge Silver Pigeon, mainly because I just love the look and feel of them.

Me, I would try for two guns. I would get a nice used target O/U for around 1200, a Citori or Beretta and spend the remainder and a decent used field gun. I would look for a used Ithaca SKB S/S and hope to find one for around 800.

This is too general. What do you want to DO with the gun? Sporting clays? Hunt quail or waterfowl? Is it your only gun? How far will it be carried and how much is weight a factor? Do you handload shells?

Agree with Steve, without knowing that, hard to say what I would suggest. If you primarily hunt, then $2,000 would buy you a couple nice shotguns in 2 different gauges. That way you can cover a few different scenario's with the money.

I would buy a couple of yildiz o/u and sxs. I have a 20 o/u that is an awesome gun for $400. 5 screw in chokes and comes up every bit as nice as my citori. I just got a 410 sxs for fun. $500 and is every bit as nice a fit and finish as the cz or others for twice the price. I also have a Franchi Highlander 20 sxs. Super nice gun but 3 time the price and doesn't shoot any better. The good thing is you don't have to worry about scratching them up using them. This is one of the best values out there.

Knowing that Beretta O/U's are what I like (and what fits me best- longer LOP), and that I already have one in 12ga/28", I'd opt for a Beretta 686 or Silver Pigeon in 20ga/26" for quail hunting.

I'd buy another just like I have- light sweet swinging Citori Upland Special 20- come to appreciate the safetly features of an o/u- plus- only two shots makes for a bit more care- does quite nicely on many different loads even with the short barrels- and it fits to a tee

Used Cynergy classic 12Ga with 26" barrels, I have yet to find something that fits me as well, the Cabela's in Keller, TX had one that was in about 95% condition for $1299. I should have bought it!
