Lead Shot

Last bag I bought was $50. Some stores aren't even selling anymore unless you get a group together to buy a pallet. This is terrible.

Yep sounds about right, and if you haven't already, next time your in your local hunting/sporting store take a look at the prices of the factory ammo. Careful you might have a heart attack !!

Yes, I have been watching the prices of factory rounds...brutal. A lot of folks I shoot with seem to be switching to the generic 4-packs. Problem is with me I can never find what I like to shoot. I shoot skeet and I like (12 gauge) 1-ounce loads, #9. I don't like shooting 1 1/8 for skeet. With the cost of lead, I made a recent move to reloading 7/8s in 12g. I was shooting Clays powder, CB Lightening (generic Windjammer wad), Fed 209 primers, #9 magnum 1 ounce. Now it is still Clays, Federal primer, the AA12L 7/8s wad (claybuster gray wad), #9mag. With the switch to 7/8s in 12 g, had to move up a bushing. In 20 gauge, Universal powder, Blue Windjammers, Federal primer, 7/8s #9. In 28g, Longhshot powder, Fed primers, Red Duster wads, 3/4 ounce #9. I use the AA Hull in the 3 gauges.

There is a guy that owns the skeet range I go to that is selling lead shot for 39.99 a bag. It is the cheapest thing around here and seems to perform pretty well.

I was getting it for $35 up until my last bag. I know what my guy had on floor. What ticks me off is despite not selling off 1/2 that load he had on the floor, he re-priced those old bags to reflect current market prices.

Magnum or chilled? Chilled is usually cheaper.

At that price I'm buying regardless, but you are correct, chilled is typically a bit cheaper. My local store has them priced the same in today’s market, but in the past, the magnum was usually a few dollars more. My guess is for 39.99 it is probably Eagle Brand shot and I have used it in the past. It seems to run a bit larger when you look at it, the #9 looks like #8 if you ask me. I like Lawrence Brand Shot myself but I'll get whatever it available.

It is called hard shot. It does look a bit bigger compared to the other stuff I am finishing off but I cant tell if its just because it does not have that shiny finish. It breaks clays though so I am happy with it.
