Rem. 1100 Questions?
I have a 1968 3" chambered Remmington 1100 Fixed Full Semi (gun has a scope and mount). My son loves the gun and uses it for Turkey and upland. Recently it's been jamming the 3" shells. No problem with 2 and 3/4". Any ideas what is wrong?
On another issue. I would like to use this gun for waterfowl. Cabelas sells Remmigton Factory Steel Shot barrels for $250. Can I find a cheaper price? I would be willing to buy used.
I really appreciated the responses I have recieved from this forum in the past.
Thanks and Merry Christmas!

Re: Rem. 1100 Questions?
The OP PMed me and I responded. Lots of reasons why 2-3/4" would cycle while the 3" would not. Usually, though, the 2-3/4" eventually stop cycling as well.

Just as a guess, doesn't the 1100 have a gas piston in it that cause's that if it gets to dirty?

O rings bad? usually the 3 in mags only shot 3 in only not the 2 3/4in. Clean the gas ports? also there is a spring runs into the butt, they gunk up too.

Re: I think we got it working. Now Need a barrel.
Thanks for everyone's help and advice! This forum is filled with very kind people.
Now... I'm trying to find a used IC barrel for this gun so I can shoot steel loads for waterfowl. Does anyone have any ideas?

I'd try Numrich Gun Parts first (http://www.gunpartscorp.com). There are two large online gun auction sites, http://www.gunsamerica.com & http://www.gunbroker.com. There are also more used gun parts dealers you can find online (like Bob's, http://www.gun-parts.com). Also try the classifieds in www.shotgunworld.com .

Re: Rem. 1100 Questions?
I have an 1100, and whenever I have cycling problems I replace the o-ring, and clean the gas ports. Best 1100 tip I ever got was not to over-lubricate the piston and slide. Coat 'em with oil, and then wipe it all off. A very thin film is all you need. If you want to shoot steel open the choke to Skeet or IC. Probably cost about $35 or so to have a gunsmith open the choke up for you. Or just spring for a new barrel with screw-in chokes, it'll run you about $220 bucks.

Re: Rem. 1100 Questions?
Or you can buy a choke bore from Midway USA or Brownells and put the barrel in a vice with a rag around it to protect it, use lots of oil and bore the barrel out yourself. I think I paid $25 for the choke bore and it took me 30 minutes to do. Did it to my wifes Winchester Model 1200. You can buy one size choke bore that will go from Full all the way out to Improved Cylinder and there is another one that will go from Modified out to Skeet. It's an easy do it yourself job. If you can use a tap and die set you can bore a choke size. Just remember to go slowly and make sure you have it lined up straight and only go from one size choke out to the next larger size at a time for instance Full to Modified and then out to Improved Cylinder. Also you only need to bore out about 3 inches into the barrel. Just a suggestion and good luck.

Re: Ordered a Steel Shot Barrel. O rings?
My O- ring seemed a bit brittle. I read, somewhere, that I could buy these at an auto part store. Can anyone give me more info.?have an 1100, and whenever I have cycling problems I replace the o-ring
The following link is the best I deal I could find (about $3.40 with shipping).

I did a bit more thinking...I have a Magnum receiver. So an older 2 3/4 won't work for me. We also use this gun for Turkeys... so we need to be able to have a full choke. I found a 26' steel shot barrel for $214- including shipping.
Everyone- Thanks again!
Re: Rem. 1100 Questions?
The 12 gauge uses a DIN 021 o-ring. Viton would be the material of choice. You can probably get one at a hardware store for under $0.25.
