Sighting in a Pistol
Sighting in a Pistol
I bought a Ruger .357 a bit back and have put quite a few rounds through it, it's a nice gun. The problem is that the iron sights on it aren't even close to sighted in. I don't have a clue where to even start for sighting in a pistol, any tips? Anyway I can use my rifle boresight?

Move the rear sight in the direction you want the bullet to go.

If you have a partner, try this:
1. Off a good rest, shoot one time.
2. Hold it really steady on the rest, aiming at the original aim point.
3. Have your partner adjust the rear sight till the point of aim is now at the bullet hole.
4. Repeat till you have what you want.
The trick is to hold it steady. If you have a cleaning box with a vice, that would be a good way to hold it still while you're adjusting the sights.

I'd fire two shots at 25'- if you can't get them close together you need to really use a good rest- untill you can get 2 shots close leave the sights alone
other than that- Greg has the right idea
I've reloaded and shot Ruger single action .357 mags for many years- had a scope on one and open sights on the other- now I have the Hallographic sight- I sight in dead on at 60 yards
word of caution- if you are shooting lead loads not jacketed- and you've shot a lot of rounds thru it- you need to really scrub the bore
