Well, for people who've hunted behind well-trained hunting dogs, y'all would probably have a fit if you had her running ahead of you cuz she hasn't a very good trainer.
But we are all relatively new to this (one of my bros shot his first rooster Saturday) so we just had a lot of fun regardless, and seeing her so passionate about birds was so worth the trip. The retrieving was voluntary on her part. I never trained her to do that. I think I may end up sending her to work with a pro trainer for next season because life is getting fuller and I don't really have the extra time to put into real training at this point, But I want the hunting experience to get better for all of us!
