MN Pheasant Reports?

Post by cpinkert » Tue Oct 13, 2015 8:07 am

Anyone get out for opener?

I'm headed to Fergus Falls to visit the in-laws this weekend, thinking I'm going to drop south an hour or two to hunt birds in the mornings. Anyone have any intel on that area for birds they'd be willing to share? I have grouse and pheasant intel (for other areas) to share if you're willing.

I hunted opening day in the Canby area on private land. Birds were hard to find. 3 of us with 2 dogs got 3 in about 3 hours hunting. It was quite warm & windy, and that didn't help. Plus all the vegetation is still really green and lush and thick. We need a hard freeze to help take some of that down. Then there is the standing corn. While the corn harvest has started there is still a lot standing and I think most of the birds are in the corn. Another week or two with more corn out and it will be much better.
