Seen a few in western NC in the app mtns, pretty much right on the TN/NC line but hunting private land that was clear cut about 20yr ago. I've heard not many birds on game lands on roan Mtn TN an hump mtn NC

Was just on a walk about with my my 8 month old GSP pup and seen where what looked like grouse had been. It was lower on the mountain though. Area had been selective logged probably 20 years ago, tons of acorns and laural where I was. But I didnt see any birds and the pup didnt jump any either. Maybe if it was 10 degrees might have had better luck.

Had 5 flushes during two 3 hr hunts in NE. TN. Lauel/pine thickets in 5-10 year old clearcuts were key.

Ok, east TN hunters....who's getting ready and where are you gonna try first? I live in Bristol, TN, about 15 minutes from south Houston mountain. So, I will probably head that away. My family has land on clinch mountain and it meets National Forest, so I will probably be that away quite a bit. Also, going to hit Laural Bed once or twice. Any body seeing any grouse?
