Go Pro Camera

Post by weimhunter » Thu Nov 20, 2014 6:40 am

Does anyone have a Gopro that they use with the dog harness? I am thinking that it would be a fun thing to have. Any recommendations - which model?

I have no experience, but quite a few hog doggers use them. If you don't get any suitable answers here, you might poke around this site http://www.easttexashogdoggers.com/forum/

I don't have one yet but looking to get one too. Go Pro themselves make a mount that looks decent.

The one thing concerning to me about those videos is they don't show video from the dog running.

I really enjoy my gopro this is my second season using one.
I use it for all types of wing shooting , the water proof case allows you to use it in the rain or even on water retrieves.
I have taken some great waterfowl footage with it , you would think from the video I knew what I was doing but it's all the Camara.
I have numerous mounts that fit almost any application.
The only weak point I can find is the battery life , I just added the battery back pac that triples the life but now how to order a larger protective case for it.

I like the idea of mounting a camera on a dog, but can't imagine it would last long in grouse woods.

You just need to get a new backdoor for the case you have. I have the Wasabi power battery bacpac that gives even longer life than the GoPro bacpac battery and also comes with larger backdoors to accommodate the larger "bacpac'd" unit in the case. I have not looked but I would imagine GoPro makes a larger back door to accommodate their bac pac.

I also have one of these that makes filming a lot steadier - just kind of gettin' used to using it, working with some different ways to carry/mount it -

That is impressive. How much are they getting for it? That took some good engineering and can't be cheap.

Love my go pro 3.

I have the silver. For working dogs I would recommend switching the function to 1080 NARROW. This will bring the shots closer and no fisheye affect.
I would switch it to "One button" This way you dont waste battery life. I can make my battery last days like this. Dog goes on point or looks bird, push the button for recording.

I would NEVER waste my money of a harness for the dog's eye view! Well, maybe for duck hunters. It is WAY to bouncy and no fun to watch..............unless you have a barf bag.

My 2 cents/

I bought the human chest mount and put it on my dog. His front legs go through where our arms would, then the camera sits on top of his back. It is bouncy and I don't do it too often, but it can create some cool shots from time to time. I only use it if I'm hunting a field with relatively light cover. One time he ran under some brush and it got caught on it. Rarely do I hunt a field with no brush or anything, so I don't use it too often.

I wonder if many folks who would like a GoPro would also complain about carrying the equivalent xtra weight in a scattergun.

I video many events in the field with dogs. I have chronicled the development of a pup from start to finish, the dog in my avatar. having seen some youtube footage of dogs wearing Go pro's. They are interesting but I know I would not enjoy a steady diet because of cover and the height of most dogs, the field of vision is quite limited.
having said that I could see where having the dog recording the action and an additional camera recording then editing the two together could make for some very interesting video. Two camera video are very interesting but they do take some time in the cutting room.
Example of two camera vid. one camera out on the left wing the other camera behind the handler. This training session was Thanksgiving week 2013.

Watching footage from a dog harness is nauseating. I have a head mount that I wear and it is fairly good.

Doggie cam: bouncing, can't see anything significant, not worth it. Just my opinion.

But can I also take this time to complain about a barrel cam? You either have to point your muzzle at your dog and hunting partners (disaster waiting to happen), or have lots of footage of the sky and/or ground.

Do you personally have the dog mount ?
Or is this what people are telling you ?
