Thanksgiving hunt

Post by Dirtysteve » Thu Nov 24, 2011 9:19 pm

My oldest boy Cade is almost 17 and was once my shadow. Now girls, cars and friends fill all his time.
It was a welcome surprise to me this morning when he said he wanted to go.
We went to an area we had never been before and 30 min into this hunt the garmin sounded off that Tuck was on point

Today was Cade's day so I let him do most of the shooting and he did very well. Scratched a few down and even let the old man shoot some.
Turn the dogs loose again and before we knew it Tuck had found another covey
Image
Banged 2 out of this covey and had Tuck bringing one back when my pup Angel went on point and tuck backed her with one in his mouth
Image

Then saw a big covey lift off the top and fly down to the flats. So down we went and then it became Angels time to shine. She really turned it on!

Wound up finding 2 more coveys and quite a few singles
We both shot limits all over good dog work.
It ended up being one of the best hunts we have ever shared.

DirtySteve,

What a great way to spend the day.

When my 19 year old grandson and I hunted birds earlier this year, on the way home he said to check facebook when I got home.

He had sent me the following message: Twenty dollars for a license, 50 bucks for gas, out shooting grandpa bird hunting......PRICELESS!

Gotta love that kid. As you love your son, I'm sure.
Pointed birds: If it's flyin', it's dyin'.

In 1969, the only woodstock I saw was on my M-14.

Sounds like a great time and great memories were made. I'm in the same boat as my son is 17 and in his senior year. Seems like yesterday he was a baby now it's baseball, basketball, girls, friends....(not in that order) in front of old dad. We got a chance to deer hunt a little together last weekend and really enjoyed it. Next year he's off to school to play baseball and so i won't see him much. I sure hope he has some time for us to hunt when he's through school.

That is what I am talking about. you are lucky to have your dogs and son with you chasing chukars. Is there anything better than chasing chukars with dogs.

They totally ruine us all mate. :D :D :D

Seriouslly, they all come back to hunting eventually, its in there blood.
The girls just slow them down and give them storys to tell when they are old.

Cracking Post DirtySteve and hope you have many more hunts with your boy.
